Rudolf was a childhood friend of mine, and went to School 10. He had the most beautiful singing voice and I remember him singing at school. He was mild- mannered and easy- going. I believe his father was the minister of a church on River St. I was very sorry to hear of his loss.

I remember Rudy fondly at Troy High.  I was a transplant from Waterford and never really got into many good friendships at Troy High. Although Rudy and I weren't close friends, we always took time to chat when meeting in class or the hall.  He was indeed a very soft-spoken person and I never heard him speek ill of anyone.  At some point, out of the blue, he gave me a present of a gift wrapped bowtie - I was taken aback, pleased but wondering what I did to deserve this.  (When ties are required, I now usually opt for bowties.) I remembered that gesture and Rudy frequently over the years.  So sorry to hear of his passing - but he is remembered well.

I remember Rudolph Stinney very well from Miss Miller's choral group.  Rudy had a glorious tenor voice...and if a solo was required, Miss Miller knew who to choose. Here's a little more info on Rudy: His full name was Rudolph Valentino Stinney...and he was the son of Brewington Stinney, the pastor of Bethel Baptist church in Troy. After graduating from Troy High, Rudy went on to graduate from Fisk Uninversity...with a degree in music and religion. While there, he traveled with the Fisk Jubilee Singers. He was the director of music at Bethel Baptist church. Rudy died  4 May 2002 at the age of 61 and is buried at the Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy. On 8 April 2017, a musical tribute "for the late Prof. Rudolph Stinney was held at St. John's Church of God in Christ in Albany". Rudy's portrait did not appear in our yearbook...and he wasn't listed in the "Camera Shy" section of the book. He does appear on page 106 in a picture of the choral group being led by Miss Miller.  He is slightly right of center behind the piano and two gals.
