What did you do after graduation?
I worked at Estes Bros Construction, building homes on the east side of Tucson until 1970. Right after that, I was able to land a job in the printing field at LeBeau Printing Company in Phoenix as a plate maker. I was only there for about 5 months when I was drafted into the ARMY 1970. After the Army, I landed my first job in the Newspaper business in 1972 at the Yucaipa Calimesa News Mirror. Advertising was my career until July 2015, retiring at The Dallas Morning News.
I worked in advertising in California, Arizona and Texas. I started two papers from the ground floor, one in Phoenix, AZ in June 1977 named The Arizona Buy and Sell which flopped in about 6 months time. The second newspaper that I helped develop and start was in Fort Worth, TX July 1995, named The Treasure Hunter Shopping News. It was very successful until the owner sold it in 1999. It went belly up by 2000 with the new owners (Marks-Ferber Communications out of Phoenix, AZ). I worked at the Press Enterprise in Riverside, CA until 1981 and moved to Fort Worth, Texas and worked at The Fort Worth Star Telegram starting in August of 1981. My last years in the newspaper business was at the Dallas Morning News and I retired from there in July 2015. My wife and I are loving the retired life traveling and cherishing our "Fall" years together.
Update January 2021: I went back to work driving for Medical Transportation Solutions part-time to replenish my retirement funds after my wife "had" cancer in her left breast and our daughter's wedding was pretty expensive. My wife is doing well and free of cancer and we have closed the money gap of medical and wedding expensive's. Life is good and we're enjoying it to the full.
