Milton Pope

My classmates inspired me to accomplish as much personally and professionally as possible...my story:
FAMILY Married Sharon Ruth Early on Oct 4th, 1975. Have a 32 year-old son Kevin Christopher Pope, 9/21/81, married with a 1-year old son (B.S. and M.S. at USC, now senior scientist in technical firm in LA); daughter Deborah Ruth Pope, 12/16/86. (B.A. and M.A.in Education), teaching in elementary school in Los Angeles.
EDUCATION Completed a BS in Elec. Eng., ASU, 1959; completed an MS in Math & Phil UofA,1964; completed an MS in Engineering-Econ Systems, Stanford Univ. 1967;completed a Ph.D. at Stanford Univ. 1973, in Operations Research and Engineering Management.
PROFESSIONAL Assistant Professor in Systems Engr at Stanford for 5 years; transitioned to Investment Banking in New York City - split 9 years between Wall Street for Chase Manhattan Bank and Citibank headquarter on Park Ave.
In 1976 became Director of Industrial Engineering for Hughes Electronics, headquartered in Los Angeles, with staff at all five Hughes Division locations. Selected to join Hughes Space and Communication as Director Satellite Reliability. Retired in 2002. Jointed The Aerospace Corporation assisting the Air Force Space and Missile systems center in Los Angeles - 2002-2009, retirement 2009 Recruited by the Air Force Space and Missile Systems center in 2010 to a Government Service Director position to become the Acquisition Program Manager as the Air Force final reliability officer for rockets from Lockheed Martin and Boeing, launching billion dollar classified satellites for our war-fighters.
Proudest Accomplishments
(1) Being selected to teach the maximum five year term for in-university graduates, to both graduates and undergraduates in operations research and computer systems - (recognizing that most were significantly brighter than I).
(2) Surviving for over nine years in investment banking in New York City for Chase Manhattan Bank on Wall Street, and Citibank on Park Avenue.
(3) Convening in my home weekly for over 55 years, leadership training sessions primarily for young men 21 - 35 for preparation in ethics, spiritual faith, completed college and financial capability to professionally and adequately support marriage to a similarly prepared young lady.
(4) One additional proud accomplishment was the privilege to serve as the Air Force Acquisition Program Manager for the completion of the risk assessments for the Lockheed Martin Atlas and Boeing Delta rockets launching the multi-million dollar government satellites. I was able to cover 40 successful launches - the longest straight manifest of any Acquisition Program Manager (a lot of luck for that to happen). I must I miss it!!!
