I was surprised that i went to 1st grade at robison and so did alot of reunion people

As I approach my 50th high school reunion, I am reminded of some really "good ol' days." Here is one that I am proud of. While most of my friends were thinking, "There goes Taylor with one of his crazy inventions," I knew that I was training my good friend, Howard Kline, for something important - how to sail.
Since we lived in the Tuscon desert, this was not easy, unless your neighbor was the General Manager of the Tucson airport. No security concerns, he just gave me use of a "spare" runway.
This "land yacht" used my childhood bedspread as the sail and my highly valuable soap box derby wheels. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, I used a simple nail for the cotter keys on the axles, and had no washer protecting it from the turning of the wheels.
The Arizona winds were strong that day and as we approach 30 mph, the nails burned up and the wheels flew off. We crashed hard, leaving me with a large scar on my elbow that I admire today.
But more importantly, Howard was so inspired that he went on to being accepted at the US Naval Academy. Howard was a great leader and very smart guy, and retired at the rank of Captain after a very successful 30 years in the Navy.
