Sarah Armstrong

Sarah Kathryn Armstrong passed away, Sunday, August 31, 2011 at the age of 47. Sarah was born at St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 24, 1963.  She attended Eliot Elementary School and Thomas Edison Junior and Senior High schools. Upon graduation Sarah moved to Austin, Texas attending The University of Texas. She graduated receiving a Bachelors of Arts degree and continued to live and work in Austin at The Texas State Treasury Department in the Unclaimed Property Division. Sarah also had a passion for music and held a second job at Waterloo Records and later became their Manager.

In 1993, Sarah moved to Chicago working at a talent agency where she placed talent for various television and screen productions filmed in the city of Chicago. Sarah then went on to work for American Airlines in their cargo reservations department.

In 1995, Sarah was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her strength and perseverance pulled her through her immediate illness allowing her to move back to Dallas to continue working for American Airlines. In her spare time, Sarah worked to discover new bands and helped to introduce those bands to record labels.

In 2000, Sarah came back home to Tulsa. She worked at Thrifty Auto Rentals as a booking agent for 8 years. Since then, she continued to fight the battle of a brain tumor.

Sarah always said that she felt she led a full and wonderful life through work, family, and travel. She strove to be the best aunt or as she would say, “Auntie Mame” to her nieces and nephew. She believed and lived each day as if it were her last, she tried to make as many friends she could, and tried never to make an enemy. The quote she believed so strongly in was “To be rich in friends is to be poor in nothing.” In a letter left for her family upon death, Sarah said not to worry about her. She hears there are no doctors, needles, shots, or scales in heaven, and that she will be sure and request Ella Fitzgerald’s cloud so that she can hear a concert every night in heaven.

Sarah is survived by her father, Judge Richard V. Armstrong, mother Ruth J. Armstrong, sister Rachel Miller, brother Rich Armstrong, brother-in law Matt Miller, sister-in law Christie Armstrong, and nieces, Elisa and Mallory Armstrong, and Sydney Miller and nephew Jack Miller.

The family requests donations be made to the Sarah K. Armstrong Memorial Fund at Trinity Episcopal Church, 501 S. Cincinnati Ave, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74103.
