Funeral services for Larry Dean Butcher, 66, of Marshall, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in the chapel of Downs Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Powell officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Tyler Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Butcher passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, at his residence.

Larry Dean Butcher was born on Feb. 24, 1944, to Charles Edward Butcher and Mable Irene Sanders Butcher in Tyler. He was a 1964 graduate of John Tyler High School in Tyler. He married Virginia Fay Boyd on July 13, 1968, in Tyler. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, listening to music, eating catfish and most of all he really loved his grandchildren. He was a brakeman for Cotton Belt Railroad for 25 years, and then became an engineer in Dalhart for Southern Pacific & Union Pacific Railroads. He moved to Marshall in 1999 when he moved here with the railroad to be closer to his home in Tyler. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of UTU-L (union), the Brotherhood of Locomotives, and a member of Victory Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Butcher of Marshall; sons, Larry Butcher Jr. and Boyd Lynn Butcher, both of Marshall; daughter, Tammy Elaine Stuckey and husband Billy of East Mountain. Also surviving Mr. Butcher are his eight grandchildren: Travis Jeffrey Smith of College Station, Austin Dean Butcher, Justin Scott Butcher and Benjamin Michael Butcher, all of Marshall, Mason William Stegall and Ashley Clay Stegall, both of Tyler, Andrew Kenneth Stuckey of College Station, and Billy Stuckey III "Trey " of Longview; brothers, H.E. Butcher and wife Mary of Grand Prairie, James Glenn Butcher and wife Earlene of College Station, Allen Earl Butcher and wife Donna of Cedar Hill, Jimmy Wayne Butcher and wife Holly of Southlake, Kenneth Stanley Butcher and wife Jan of Mesquite, and Danny Lynn Butcher and wife Susie of Tyler; sisters, Gertrude Louise Staples of Tyler and Kitty Lane of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Robert Olan Butcher, Billy Jack Butcher and Tommy Frank Butcher.

Visitation will be Monday, March 15, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Downs Funeral Home, 4608 Elysian Fields Rd., Marshall. - Tyler Morning Telegraph, Mon., March 15, 2010
