Kathryn Iola McLane of El Mirage, Ariz. passed away on Oct. 9, 2014, following a battle with cancer.

She is survived by one brother, Robert Earl McLane of Shreveport, La. She was predeceased by her father Edwin Douglas McLane; mother Mary Helen Wise McLane; and brother Roy Joe McLane of Cameron, Texas; former husband Felipe DeJesus Rubio; and beloved son John Michael Rubio (1975-1994), both of Glen Avon, Calif.

Kathryn was born on Sept. 28, 1946 in Cameron, Texas. She graduated John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas in 1964 and Tyler Junior College with an Associate of Arts Degree in 1967. She attended the University of Houston from 1968 to 1969, majoring in Psychology.

She later moved to California where she worked for 29 years in law enforcement. During her career with the California Department of Corrections, she held various positions as Correctional Officer, Correctional Counselor and Parole Agent, Level 1. She retired on Feb. 2, 2002 and relocated to Sun City Grand in Surprise, Ariz. In recent years, she divided her time between homes in El Mirage and Prescott, Ariz.

Kathryn was blessed with an artistic nature. She enjoyed decorating her surroundings, giving her home and yard a very special "Kathryn touch." She also had a great eye for photography, which showed in the beautifully framed pictures that adorned her home.

She had a fondness for music and enjoyed playing a wide variety of musical instruments, including the violin, guitar, ukulele, Indian flute and piano. She was a member of the Sun City Ukulele Club. She had a passion for dancing and had been a member of a local clogging group at Pueblo of El Mirage for the past seven years. She attended clogging workshops in Tucson and choreographed a special dance for the class in 2012. She loved children and often did volunteer work at a nearby elementary school.

Kathryn made friends easily. Everyone loved her delightful personality and happy spirit. She will be greatly missed by her numerous friends and extended family.

A "Celebration of Life" will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at the Palms of El Mirage Clubhouse, 16101 N. El Mirage Road, El Mirage, AZ 85335.

A second "Celebration of Life" will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at Common Grounds Corona, 1771 3rd Street, Suite 102, Norco, CA 92860.

Kaye Rudd (Hobbs, Liles)

We will be celebrating Kathryn's life here on Tyler,Texas. Pnly knew her from high school and she was a very sweet person. God bless the family.
