Capt. Edward H. Winslow VIEW PROFILE

Capt. Edward H. Winslow 1918 2007 CHICOPEE - Capt. Edward H. Winslow, USN Ret., 89, of Chicopee, died Tuesday June 5, 2007 at his home. He was born in Dallas, Texas, son of the late Erle and Lela (Hughes) Winslow and attended Dallas schools. He attended Southern Methodist University, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland, Class of 1942. He later attended the Naval War College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and received a Master's Degree from George Washington University. Capt. Winslow served on the USS Robinson in the Pacific during World War II and on the USS Leary during the Korean War. His subsequent assignments included that of commanding officer of the USS Des Moines, flagship of the US Sixth Fleet, and Captain of the USS LaSalle at its commissioning. After his retirement from the Navy, Capt. Winslow worked as a vice president of Stanwick International Corp. in Iran, and for RCA in Virginia. He lived in the Washington, D.C. area for many years before moving to Annapolis, MD. He moved to Chicopee seven years ago. Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Nichols) Winslow, a daughter, Mary K. "Berk" Winslow of Holyoke, and his grandchildren Nicholas and Elizabeth LaBelle of Holyoke. Interment will be private, and held at the United States Naval Academy. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the charity of one's choice. Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home of Holyoke is handling the arrangements.
