My years spent as a member of the Beefeater Band will always be very special to me. The amazing trips, the performances, the people I met will remain an important part of my life. As a mother of 3 children I am only too aware of how important it is to be involved as a young person in something like the Beefeaters. We all had a chance to shine, to feel accomplished and a little bit special! What a great thing we all share.
I joined the band in 1973, first as a member of the colour guard then in 1974 I joined the drum section. I was fortunate enough to go on 3 major trips with the band: Edinburgh '75, Royal Tournament '77, and Melbourne Tattoo '79. I have many great memories, including being called "Little Lindy with the biggest pair of ....cymbals" by Wally Shilito at the Edinburgh Tattoo. I know Sue Fillipelli will never let me forget that one. Of course there were those long bus rides and endless singing (Bohemeian Rhapsody anyone?) I will always share the blame with my fellow "Rebel Rousers" Cindy Arsenault and Margaret Callander. I left the band prior to the South Africa trip. Instead, Margaret and I decided to backpack around the U.K.
Since leaving the band I have had a couple of different careers. I lived in Australia during the late 80s, returned to Vancouver to continue my education, first at Langara College then to UBC where I received a B.A. in History. I met my husband, Rob, at UBC and we were married in 1996 at a winery just outside Adelaide, South Australia. Since then I've been busy raising my 3 kids and, believe it or not, teaching ice skating for Surrey Parks and Recreation.
