So saddened to hear of Gary's death.
Gary was one of my first and best friends when I came to Simon Fraser in the 7th grade. He was the smartest and most respected kid in the school, not only for his academic success, and evident intelligence, but also his ethical and respectful dealing with others. He allowed me, an outsider, to be his friend.
In the 8th grade we worked on the "graduation committee". Together we wrote, directed, and acted in the 8th grade graduation play about King John and the signing of the Magna Carta. It was not a popular success and probably our last venture into the arts.
I spent many wonderful hours in Gary's home with his gracious and most generous parents and met his younger brother Dale, who also befriended me and with whom I shared some later adventures.
Gary and I remained friends thoughout high shool and UBC.. By then we had grown apart in our interests although my respect for him never diminished. I have no knowledge of him or his life since that time but would be eager to learn more.
One thing is clear, that such a mind should be prematurely extinguished by Alzehimers disease is truly tragic.

My condolences to Gary's family on his passing. I first met Gary at Eric Hamber and we became fast friends, enjoying many laughs and good times. After high school, we did lose contact and I was very saddened to learn of his suffering with dementia, particularly since he was a very bright, articulate person. I trust he is in a better place.
