Dear Drinda

 My virtual cyber-reunion is over as the real thing starts. Congratulations and thank you again for the work you guys have done in organizing this event. Last evening, perhaps as some were fretting about what to wear today ( I actually would have nothing to wear), I was relaxed sitting at my window, feet up, sipping a martini, listening to "All Along The Watchtower" - thinking about what I learned at Eric Hamber, certainly not much about run-on sentences, I thought about 12thgrade english class and the wonderful poetry which has been with me since. ie Thomas's Fern Hill.                                                                                                                       "Nothing I cared in the lamb white days that time would take us---------                                                         To wake to the farm forever fled from the childless land                                                                              Oh as I was  young and easy in the mercy of his means                                                                                               Time held me green and dying                                                                                              Though I sang in my chains like the sea"                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            As I watched  the sun set over the Hudson River, over New Jersey, over the Wide Continent,  I thought I could actually see our majestic Lions with pristine Vancouver and my old friends glittering beneath..

What a wonderful reunion we enjoyed!  It was really wonderful to reconnect with so many classmates and hear all your life stories.  Very special thanks to all the organizers for their hard work and organization.  The venue and the food were topnotch.  Let's have another lunch in 5 years to catch up!

Hi everyone, to see the smiling engaged faces of grads meeting after so many years, sharing a meal, posing for our group photo, enjoying the beautiful view over the fairways, was so special to me.  It has to rate high in my memory of special moments, of which I have been blessed with many, some of which were, private fun dinner for six with raconteur Peter Ustinov, and his tales of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Regan, walking up Burrard street to Sutton Place hotel, private one on one conversation with Audrey Hepburn, on the deck in West Van, over looking Vancouver, chats with Liv Ulmann and escorting Harry Belafonte to and from lunch, and Nana Maskouri, all to benefit Unicef moms and kids, and meeting Mikail Gorbachev at his private plane at Vancouver south private terminal to welcome him on behalf of Science World, and escorting him through meetings with students, and then university presidents over lunch.  Today was special to join childhood friends and re-live some fun times as we spilled over with enthusiasm into the world.  Please keep in touch, keep sending pics and we will add those taken today.  My heartfelt thanks to you all, fondly. It was such a great gathering!  So wonderful to see those happy faces as I enjoyed reliving my school years. 

Sure appreciate the time and effort put forth to set this up. Your rewards were seen in all those smiles!

What a wonderful, outstanding reunion of former classmates.  I thoroughly enjoyed it all - the Point Grey Golf Club was spectacular, the sunshiny day and seeing all the smiling faces.  It was fantastic to reconnect.

I would like to add my congratulations to all the people who worked on on this website and helped organize such a great event. Special mention of course to Carol, Drinda for arranging the accomodations and possibly the best luncheon I have ever had (I have had a number of those), Eric  (magic keys) for his piano entertainment, and Felicia for her wonderfu summary of the way it was.

It was a lot of fun to recall our youth and with good food, exercise and keeping the faith I hope to see you all again at the next milestone.

COMMENTS FROM MR. "ERNIE" COLLEDGE, FORMER TEACHER FROM ERIC HAMBER AND GUEST AT OUR REUNION

As I said in my compliments and tributes to the Class of ’64, you were the introducers, innovators and initiators of virtually everything that Hamber has become.

Your class was just so full of energy and full-on direction, and as Felicia reminded us that in 1964 we felt/thought that there was nothing that could not be done or achieved!!

And that is part of the Hamber spirit that your class embraced, and certainly passed along to the junior grades—in spades!!—Still surviving healthily today!!

The Class of ‘73 that celebrated their 40^th last May had an amazing gathering and celebration which was to that point the very best of reunions I’ve attended in my long, and getting longer history of school class reunions.  So to this point Hamber ’64 and Hamber ’73 have shown the most heart, soul, love of accomplishments, in everything.  To the Hamber class of '64, this grad celebration was penultimate.

Looking forward to the many photos taken today.

Watching the full moon tonight, May 3/2015, 1:35 a.m. .  Remembering poem I learned in Grade 3, Simon Fraser Elementary, teacher Mrs. Hastings.

                                                     Silver, by Walter de la Mere

Slowly, silently, now the moon walks the night in her silvery shoon;

This way & that she peers, & sees silver fruit upon silver trees.  

  One by one the casements catch her beams beneath the silvery thatch.
