I'm sorry to hear this news. Gary and I were pretty good friends for a time the year after we graduated. I was in grade 13 at King Ed. I can't recall what he was then doing, maybe he’d begun working. I do remember him being open and enthusiastic with a generous, friendly spirit who took in life with a lot of zest. Over the years I lost all contact with Gary but then it was a lot of fun catching up with him at Hamber's 50th birthday, which I came to from Toronto. It seemed to me like he hadn't changed at all.
I learned about Gary Zabenssky very late, on this page actually, and from his greeting through Carol, on her visit to Nanaimo. From that I saw that he was an especially kind and friendly person. A standout.
