Media club of 1975

My memory of 1975 is not as sharp today as it was a few years back, but the Media Club of 1975 is as fresh as ever.  Many of you may not remember this club or care, but for a few of us back in 1975 it was the pinnacle of our Grad year.    The creation of the Media Club began as a concept developed by 4 students.    I developed a friendship with Steve Heim who was a star student in TV media course taught by Mr. Barker.    At the time I was heavily involved in drama on the technical side and actually managed the auditorium for rentals, mainly during evening hours.   Steve and I discussed a proposal to create the Media Club in our Grad Year.    The purpose was to review audio and visual technologies and discuss among club members.   We submitted our proposal for club sponsorship and Mrs. Marsh became our sponsor.    Now the club was just a false front.   We recruited about 12 students who were technically talented....ie geeks.  Our plan was to take over the Public Address system later on in the year with the intent to let school out.    We devised our plan.   If you look at the 1975 annual you will see the media culprits.   In early spring of 1975, we gained access to the public address system during night school and hastily made some modifications to the main panel so that we could not be electrically cut off.   This required some cutting of wires.....we had a grade 11 student who completed electricty10 and he did the dirty work.   At least the school didn't burn down and he lived another day.   We had our esteemed President, Elliot Neeman (sp), prepare a pre recorded message which was to run an hour in length and which I believe was to dismiss all classes.   We managed to secure Jim Phillipones (sp) amplifier and we set this up in the Cove space above the auditorium.   The amp was spliced into the Public Address system wires and at 9:00am on a fine spring morning we played the prerecorded tape.     Now there was some genuine panic by some teachers and staff as they could not turn our recording off.    But we had problems at our end with Steve holding the wires together at the amplifier 40 feet above the auditorium floor.   20 minutes later Admistration were PO, and they took up a search party and eventually caught Steve and hauled him off to the office.    He was in deep shit and was going to be expelled.   We all knew he could not take the fall for this.   So I talked to Elliot who also was in deep dodo and suggested that the entire media club (about 50 of us) to appear before the Principal and also surrender various master keys that we had.    Suffice to say they couldn't expel 50 kids.     We got off lucky.     These were the best days of my Hamber life.    Thanks goes to Steve and Elliot and all others that pulled this prank off.
