Eric, thanks for bringing this honour to our attention.  John, well done, consistent with the high standards of the Professors' Club of the 1950's, and a fitting tribute to your creative gifts.  Good to see you at the reunion!

John:
Congratulations on the award of Distinguished Educator! It is wonderful to be recognized for ones work but I know the payoff for you was the pricilige of contributing to your Students, Selkirk College and the Internationalo Community.

Well done and best wishes,

Don

Wow John, very impressive and well done! Obviously your students were most fortunate to have you.  Congrats on a most well deserved award!

It was also great to see you again at the reunion, enjoyed chatting with you! Hope to see you again at our next one....or before if something else comes up!

Enjoy your most well deserved retirement!!

It is finally time to sit down and say a huge thank you to the organizing committee that thought of everything and  coached us all along to participate. The amazing buzz in the room never stopped, it seems like we were all glad to see one another and wanted to engage. Thanks for a warm and gracious welcome, Don Crompton, don't know as too many heard you. Still it was obvious that the room and food and displays were set up to have us all just dive into remembering and laughing and catching up. If I had the energy I think I would have stayed until breakfast the next morning. If only! I missed talking with and greeting so many. It only goes to show what a seminal time those high school years were and what a great group we travelled with. May we do it again before I have to be in bed by 6pm.

John, thank goodness you survived our Friday night Pizza and Whiskey nights to go on and achieve such success! A deserving honour for a deserving recipient.

Here it is, four weeks since our wonderful reunion – it is no longer something I chatter about to everyone I talk to, and my pre-event pedicure has pretty much worn off….

But running into Brian Rocksborough-Smith yesterday at White Rock Beach triggered some of the memories of that evening. I do think about it often, how much fun it was to see so many old friends from those ‘formative’ years, the conversations enjoyed with people whom I hadn’t really even known all that well in high school, catching up with those I’d lost touch with…. but of course it was impossible to get to talk to everyone on the wish list! I extend my appreciation to the very dedicated and hard-working organizing committee – what a terrific job by all of you! And to think I was somewhat reticent about attending – thanks for the arm-twisting, Joan C !

A day or so after the reunion, I happened to chat with a ‘young-old’ guy in a lineup at the wine store, and mentioned our Magee ’65 reunion. He responded that his 50th reunion is this September in Victoria, but he didn’t plan to go. I said “You MUST go – you CAN'T miss it!!”, and I'm pretty sure he was convinced.

Hope we don’t have to wait too long for our next get-together! Have a great summer, everyone!

Hi All,  I had a super time at the reunion.  Talked my face off, only reconized a dozen faces - had to keep looking at name tags.  I have a great memory but it's short so if I talked to you twice and didn't acknowledge the first time - deal with it - I'm old !

My only complaint is you are all way older than me.  I asked for the after party like our last one and apprently it happended there at 10:30 p.m.  I also helped Marion cork with the black and red jelly beans in the bowls that were left when all were gone.  I dumped half of one in my purse then I asked Marion for the bags she had put the extras in.  I sold then to the last classmates and made $7.00.  The odd dollar was for someone that didn't want the candies but i said to give me a dollar anywhere to help with my airfare home.  Don't remember who it was but it was a guy.  Best to all of you and hope to see you in 5 years ??  maybe.

Hey Barb- you said at the runion that you never knew that you were funny and that you grew up in your brothers' shadows.  I just want you to know that you were ALWAYS funny and smiling and that you were never a mere shadow of your brothers.  In the Class of '65 you cast an impressive shadow of your own!!  uhhhh- that didn't come out right!  You know what I mean!!  It was such fun to see you at the reunion and next time you can have ALL the jelly beans!

Another pleasant aftermath of the Reunion- Messrs Ellis, Silbernagel, Thomson and Ellison spent a perfect , sunny afternoon last Thursday playing golf at Northlands Golf Course, followed by  2 delightful hours in the bar talking about old times, current times and the future. It was agreed by all that there is something special about friendships made when you are kids growing up together and that the passage of time and changes in circumstances over many years are forgotten when we get together again . It was such a great day that we are doing it again next week and, I suspect will continue to do so during the summer . All four of us thank the Committee for making  this happen. .

Hi BARB again, I have to assume that you recognized me during trhe event, even more so when we said ta ta for the night. But, to make sure I have the correct lady: about 10-15 years AGO, we went on our first cruise (San D to Ft L) great entertainment, especially from the tours guest singer, who called herself "The Broadway Belter". I don't think that was you, but she certainly belted Broadway in your Magee style. Cheers & good-luck with your new govt. Many V

I was soooo excited to see everyone i was a blithering mess.  Of course I remembered you Many as I really did remember everyone else but I still took a second look just to make sure.  Although I've been on a couple of cruises, I never performed so it wasn't me.  Well actually I did but is was a lip sinc contest and I came second. Some guy did Mack the Knife (Bobby Darren) and he came first - he was soo cool all the women swooned over him so I didn't have a chance.

Oh and I was just talking to my daughter and she reminded me of a cruise we took to Alaska a few years ago with all her in-laws.  Apprently I "liked" one of the gorgeous waiters - so at the kereoke I asked him to sing with me.  He had an amazing voice and sang a Julio Iglelasis song - "Of all the girls I've loved before".  Of course I helped him and it was hysterical.  AND he gave me a big kiss at the end.  SIGH !!!

Hey Barb,

Am working on English for Magee 65 - "blithering" is good, "Blathering", not so good, as this sound like failing English 9-12; but "blithering" suggests you have linguistic talents, unkown till today. Re cruise, the lady on cruise did a really good version of "Unchained Melody" (check with Gary B & Carolyn), but ignored Bobby Darin re whatever he did while en route to farewell. Incidentally, have little to send other than some of Mr Crumpton's old cohorts from wherever - does "Lumpy Crumpy" sound for real. MV

Hi everybody

Loved reading all the responses from the reunion and of course meeting old friends.  Elayna was one of them.  She lives right here in Kelowna (West) and we met up here a couple of weeks ago. (will include a picture)  I left for Cancun two days after the reunion and had a blast.  Life here in Kelowna is awesome.  Love visiting Van but Kelowna is home.  I was amazed at Clive Langton's memory for faces and names (tags may have helped) but he did recall a lot of stuff from our days at school.  I think a phonebook with names of all attendees might be in order.  Might encourage some to stay in touch.  When you look at the list of those who aren't around anymore, it would be nice see who is still here.  Now I sound like 80.  Well even that's not that far off anymore.  So live life to it's fulles and enjoy every day while you can.

Cheers to all,

Peter Schubert

John,

I had not visited the Magee website for some time, and when I did recently I saw the wonderful article about your retirement from Selkirk College.  John, I heartily congratulate you on your achievement, or rather the cumulative achievements of a lifetime of service to Selkirk College, your students, and your community. The title of "Distinguished Educator" is a great and well-deserved honour.  Many thanks to Eric for bringing this article to our attention.

This is excruciatingly late but, first, thanks, Marion for reminding me to update my profile.  I was, in the process, able to view the photos so thoughtfully taken at the reunion and posted by Ron Harrison.   I have to confess that, upon viewing them, I didn't recognize a single soul.  It wasn't until I zoomed in closer to some of them and read the nametags that I recognized who was who!   Awfully good to see those old faces--and when I say "old", I mean that in the best sense of the word, of course ;-)    Thanks, Ron and thanks yet again to the dedicated, hard-working committee behind all this!

Ok, so not quite sure how this will work. Hard to believe it is almost six months since the reunion! Time does mosey along as do we. Now back in Mexico for the winter. Managed to dodge Hurricane Patricia on the drive down and we were pleased to find our home and community pretty much unscathed. It would seem that Mexico dodged a big bullet  this time. Pretty smooth transition to our Mexico routines. I just need to remember what time I usually go to the gym. 😊.

Hi, Marion, Does this mean that I should practice 24/7day to beat ET, Bill & Strom in 2017; or should 3 of us retire while strom goes to glory, other than in Nelson. MV

Hi Magee, While this may be a bit early; would like to thanks the whole committee, especially Marion, Carolyn & Rina; + others for a good show & good fun in very late April. So!!! have a great holiday season. Not sure about the next session; but will check with my golfing quartet (Bill, Eric & John A) next year, without help from Ross re our swings. Nothing greatly new here, as Val went in for a new knee 2 weeks ago, back home, still recovering for quite a while. Anyhow, as all Estonians (Marty & I) say; good to be a Canadian-Estonian, have a great holiday season. Cheers, MV

Many, as the Canadian Estonians say, Haid Puhi ja head uut aastat!

Hope your wife is over the worst of the knee surgery. The rehab is hard and painful at times. I have had both knees replaced in 2000 and 20001.

So, another year ends/begins and the cycle continues. For those of us that were lucky enough to attend the wonderful reunion, at least one memory to be treasured! To all of you out there I hope the coming year is one filled with health, happiness, peace, family, friends and just a wee bit of adversity to keep things interesting and help us appreciate all that we have. May 2016 be the best year yet!

Hi Glen,

We survived another holiday season intact. Val went into hospital on Nov 26th for a knee replacement. While I'm  still driving, she has done really well in her rehab. This Friday she has an appointment with med doc to determine when she can start driving herself. Cheers for 2016. MV
