School Story:
Anyone who was in the band knows what a superior band director Bob Davis was. He was not only popular but highly respected by we bandsman. One day during marching season, our practice routine was definitely not going well. Mr. Davis brought us to attention, stormed off the field and returned to the building, obviously very angry. We stayed at attention, no talking, for most of the next period, until it was reported that a lot of folks appeared to be skipping their next class. Someone apparently mentioned that the band was still on the practice field. Either another teacher or the principal came to get us, and asked us to quickly get to whatever class we were supposed to be in. I don't remember that anything ever came of the incident, other than our increased effort to get the program right during the next practice.
I don't know if a teacher could command that kind of respect today, but Bob Davis certainly did then.
