You are a Winner, Christine! And even without kids, I am a Lott. I have the marriage certificate and drivers license to prove it.

Thanks for your post! Life is good, if we can just appreciate our own green grass.

Definitely am learning to enjoy single life and I have no doubts that I will have a blast at the reunion events!! Where I find myself now is just not where I thought life would be heading! Diane--nothing wrong with having family-centered goals ... DeeDee--children when come when the time is right! ... happiness stems from perspective and while mine temporarily took a turn for the worst, I KNOW everything happens for a reason and we must find joy in what we have been blessed with because there is always someone who is worse off than you think you are ... my Tigger lost his step but quickly found it's bounce when I looked beyond the immediate hills to the shining horizon!

This message forum is too quickly becoming a sap-fest for the ladies. Any chance we can all agree the grass is always browner and get on with the lighter side of life thoughts and high school memories. Anyone else remember the epic-long dance to Brass Monkey that Damon DeSue performed for a KHS talent show - I didn't know there was an extended version of Brass Monkey, but he was at it well through his alloted time sporting some serious spandex!

Where the heck is Damon DeSue? Get him on here to give us more than "CPA and 3 kids." I don't remember the spandex Brass Monkey performance, but I'd imagine the girls might have enjoyed it a bit more than you, Brian. Can we say encore for the reunion?

I would love to see that. I don't remember it from high school, but it could be lots of fun now!

Certainly remember the song but not the performance and I'm glad.....(no offense bra). I just remember Damon being fast and I'm still tryin' to catch 'em.

Anyway, some of you may not remember me (I guess I was a little under the radar) but I at least want to let Dee Dee (and all others involved) know that the site is great and thanks for making it happen.....

Tomorrow is 9/11. What were you doing when the towers fell?

09/10/08 09:03 PM #48

John Zulueta

Ervin,
We lived on the same street, from junior high to high school. My parents still live there so I get back often. I remember riding that cheese wagon in junior high. Once we got into high school we pretty much lost touch as no one rode the bus and everyone started bumming rides. Glad to see you on the post here and hope all is well.

As for Rob's question, that day watching the towers on t.v at the office will always be burned into my mind. We had just returned from overseas the day before through JFK. Still a day of sadness impressed forever in my mind.

9-11, Ah - I remember it well. I was on my way to take the 2 oldest to school when the second plane hit the Twin Towers. I had just recently purchased mounds of American Flags from a Rite Aid that was going out of business and my little one and I went to the store (9/12)and past them out to various shoppers. It was a wonderful way to put a smile on a strangers face during everyone's time of need. I also had a nephew born the day before (9/10) and remember trying to keep my sister in-law in the dark about the whole situation so she wouldn't get too drepessed in her time of excitment.

Hey John...
I bet you didn't realize that you are the original J.Z. Yeah man rememember it well.... My parents still own that house... doing well and glad to know that you are doing the same. Hope to catch up....

Wow 9/11...I use to work in WTC 1 and left the city before the first attack in 1993. It was very emotional to watch considering that I use to be in that area everyday and had family that took the train from there everyday as well. It's hard to appreciate the size of those buildings from your t.v. screen and you would never think that anything could take those things down.... i mean sometimes they would be in the clouds....
Anyway...I was at work watching it all unfold w/ a bunch of other Marines....and I think we all knew what we were about to get into.....

September 11, 2001....I was working for Delta Air Lines, but I was off that day. We were on our way to the doctor's office for my daughter's 4 month check-up. We didn't see either building fall, but we were listening on the radio and heard the late Peter Jennings' account of it. Going to work the next day and seeing no flight activity in and out of our normally busy airport (at the time, Delta's 2nd largest hub) was a sight that I knew I'd never forget.

On 9-11-01, I was in-house counsel for a software company. When we heard the news, we immediately turned on the TV on the big screen in the board room by my office. The sight of the first plane flying into the tower looked almost like a joke, totally unreal -- I may have even let out a laugh. But then my very slow brain started to realize that it was actually happening, and lives were undoubtedly lost on impact and many more at risk. My boyfriend at the time (now ex)'s brother was an IT manager for Cantor Fitzgerald on the top floor of WTC1. I nervously dialed the phone to call his wife -- did she know what was happening? The phone picked up on the second ring, ... and it was my ex-boyfriend's brother's voice! That workaholic had taken a fluke day off to play golf with a few other company executives. With so many of his colleagues now dead, he was nearly solely responsible for executing the IT disaster recovery plan, all in the midst of mourning the many lost.

On 9-11-01 I was a nurse at Providence Road Family Practice in Kempsville, the area of the office I worked in was being remodeled, and a construction worker came running up to me asking if we had a TV, and told me he received a page that an airplane hit the WTC. Bye the time we got to the TV, it was just in time to see the second attack, and then each collapse. I will never forget the feeling I had once reality sunk in and I knew what had just happened. My husabnd was aboard the USS Ross then, and he was immediatly deployed.

Well, we had just moved to Groton CT and were living on the Submarine Base up there. My husband was, of course, at sea. We only had one child at the time and my parents were visiting. My sister called us and asked what was happening on TV. My response was to tell her all about what Barney (the dinosaur) was doing. She got mad and we changed the channel. Just then we heard the alarms going off on the base and we went into lock down and we couldn't leave for 4 days. My parents had to extend their stay and I didn't see my husband for 8 months. It was a year after that he finally was able to see the full impact of the planes, they only get limited access on a submarine.

The man he relieved on the sub was a person who was always late for everything. Well, thank God he was late on that day 7 years ago because the plane that hit the Pentagon landed in his office.

God Bless everyone who lost a loved one that day. All those children who are growing up without one or both of their parents dues to the hatred in the world. All those parents who had to see their children die before them. It is such a waste....

God Bless America.

9-11 ... I was teaching half day Kindergarten when my co-worker walked in ... face blank ... "have you heard yet?" All I could think was a parent had complained about something or worse yet, something had happened to a co-worker. As she explained what was happening, I remember feeling like my head was spinning. Since I was in a room full of 5/6 year olds, I was unable to watch or listen to any updates. Being cut off from all info was horrible since I had no clue if we were under attack and how in the world would I get to my oldest son (my youngest was at the school with me)--I had no idea of the true magnitude of what was happening until I was able to get home around 2.

This whole site looks great. It is nice to read what everyone is up to and look at the pictures that have been posted. I am also horrible at remembering the faces so it is nice to see them. As far as where were you on 9/11? I was in my own little world, just going in for a check up at my ob (just found out I was having a baby), talking about pulling you from one extreme to another!

Okay, I dug around and found some of the funnies pictures.
I think I have to post them.
NO, I know I have to post them.
Until I get them up here, let me just say ...
our HaiR ladies! No one wore it bigger :P

So Jeanne and everyone out there inspired to dig up old photos -- I created a photobucket space where we can all contribute old high school photos. I know that Erin (Memories Committee) would like some current photos of people doing their current professions too. We'll use them for slideshows and posting them on pages on this site, so PLEASE SHARE!! Upload some of your favorites to www.photobucket.com/kempsville1989. The password is "gochiefs" if you need it for uploading.

Hey Katie, Me? Are you sure? If so, did we at least have a good 24 hours? :)

Hi Tracy, Very cool picture with Aerosmith!!!

Hey Diane, Does John know you have those pictures? He looks so young. I think he had just about every Motley Crue tee shirt ever made:)

Take Care All!

Yes Phillip, John was warned I am not sure if he has seen the posting yet, but he has seen the actual pictures :)

Good Lord, we (well I) am getting old. A co-worker and former 1989er told me about this site and it's addicting tracking everyone down. I love that many of you have posted pictures, and some of you haven't changed ONE BIT.

I just now realized that there is a message forum, so here I am. I kept a pretty tight group in HS so I'm not sure who will remember me or not, but I'm always up to making new friends and catching up with old ones. :)

Still not sure if I'm going to the reunion or not...went to the 10th and ended up leaving early (the Friday night social was really cool though).

Everyone take care and I look forward to reading more profiles!
