I am a proud mother of a 26-year-old Autistic son and a 24-year-old Gifted and Talented daughter. Being a single mother with a child on both ends of the spectrum was a challenge, to say the least. On March 15, 2021, my entire life was turned upside down! I went to work that morning and by dark, I was in the hospital to be informed that I had Colon Cancer 4B. My whole world came crumbling down in front of my eyes. All I saw was dying and what would happen to my children. I had to undergo having 6 feet of my colon and both my ovaries removed and then 6 months of intense chemotherapy. While recovering from surgery and chemotherapy, I took the time to reflect on what was really important to me. First and foremost, living life to the fullest. Unfortunately, I was terminated by my company while I was on medical leave due to not being able to fulfill my job duties. At first, I was angry but it took some time to realize one door must close so another may open. God has a reason for everything that happens! I decided to finish my Business Degree, something I had been putting off for 30 years. So I took the advice of my daughter and began my journey toward my B.A. in Business. I am currently proud to say I am cancer-free, a full-time college student, and have a career as an Administration Manager. Am I afraid that cancer may come back? Yes! But I will continue to live as though it won't. I want to take my experience with cancer and with returning to college after 30 years to make a better life for myself and make a difference in the Glamping Resort World.
