Gregory Scott Rice, 48, of Rixeyville died September 15, 2009 at his home.
He was born in Richmond, VA on May 24, 1961. He moved to Fauquier County at the age of twelve, became deep rooted, and loved this area. He worked for Warrenton Wholesale as a teenager, then for VA Department of Transportation as an electrician.
Greg started his 20+ year with the Warrenton Training Center in 1986, where he forged many long-lasting friendships.
Greg’s passion for hunting took him to many places such as Canada, Wyoming, Montana, Texas, Florida, and his all-time favorite, Africa. He kept journals of all his hunting experiences and hoped to write a book in his retirement. His artistic ability and the love of the sport led him into the field of taxidermy where he could express himself and create life-like mounts of the animals he loved and respected. Two years ago, Greg succumbed to the addiction and evils of alcoholism. It was painful as his family and friends watched his rapid demise.
Despite the turmoil of the last two years, his family and friends have years of great memories of awesome times with Greg. He was a good son, a great husband, and a wonderful father. He is forever in our hearts and will truly be missed. God rest his soul.
He is survived by his parents, Guy “Dick” and Brenda Rice of Rixeyville, his wife of 25 years, Jacqueline Johnson Rice of Bealeton, three daughters, Bethany of Radford, VA, Hailey and Cassie, both of Bealeton. He also leaves an aunt, Gaye Hutson of Hampton; cousins, Alison Hutson of Hampton and Chris Hutson and family of Gloucester, Uncle Bill Rice of Richmond and Aunt Barbara Jean Hobbs of Richmond, VA. Father-in-law, Bud Johnson of Bealeton, sister-in-law, Linda Johnson of Midland and brother-in-law and wife, Brian and Brenda Johnson of Waldorf, MD. He has numerous cousins serving in missions for the Lord around the world. Reuniting with cousins Bill, Tommy, Jimmy and Danny Crews of Saxe,VA was one of the greatest highlights in Greg’s life. He was preceded in death by his beloved Nana and Papa, his grandparents, Clarence and Pearl Crews.
