Peggy Lee Erwin Scherff
May 1, 1945 - January 20, 2025
Peggy Lee Scherff, 79, of Welch, MN, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at home on January 20th, 2025.
She was born in Waseca, MN in 1945 to John (Jack) Erwin and Maxine Statham. She grew up and graduated from Waseca High School. She spent time living in Philadelphia, PA, and Orlando, FL, where she gave birth to her only daughter, Tammy, in 1966. She later moved back to Minnesota and worked at Woodbury Junior High, as well as 3M, before finding her home at Dakota County Government Center, where she worked for 30 years.
Peggy met the love of her life, Lyle, in 1981. They were married on May 22, 1982. They enjoyed traveling the world, lunches out with friends, playing with their cat, Midnight (Mimi), and spending time with their daughter and grandchildren.
Peggy’s pride and joy was truly her family. She lived for attending anything to do with her daughter and grandchildren, Samantha and Brett. She was so proud of her grandson, a Police Officer, and recently attended her granddaughter’s wedding. She spent many hours tracking all their locations on the Life360 app, just to make sure they were safe; and always checked in after they returned home to see how their day went, even if all they did was go to the dentist. Nobody loved their family harder than Peggy – it is a love that will never be replaced.
Peggy had a soft spot for her many furry friends, especially her cat, Mimi; her grand dog, Boo; great-grand dog, Hamilton; and great-grand cats, Robb & Chili.
Peggy had an abundance of great friends and never missed a chance to have lunch with them.
Aside from spending time with family, Peggy enjoyed reading mysteries and thrillers, jigsaw puzzles, her iPad, traveling, taking care of her people, and being cozy in her favorite chair. Peggy will be remembered most for her infectious laugh.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Jack Erwin, and mother, Maxine Erwin. She is survived by her loving husband, Lyle Scherff; beloved daughter, Tammy (Warren) Peine; and grandchildren, Samantha (Adam) Markulics and Brett (Meran Rose) Peine.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St, Hastings, MN, with a visitation from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service and a visitation/dessert reception following the service until 2:00 PM. Starkson Family Life Celebration is handling the arrangements.

Peggy was "the girl down the road" on each of the last two farms we lived on; and the last farm was owned by her parents. I shared Peggy's obituary with my siblings, Karen and Wayne, both of whom remember her well. She did, indeed, always have an infectious laugh, received, I surmiose, from her mother, Maxine, no doubt. We shared some stories and laughs at the 50th reunion, and shared "war stories" about each of us holding positions in county government. Peggy is fondly remembered, and our condolences go out to her family and friends.

Here is the country school Peggy attended for grades 1-5. The second one in the second row, she was the only student in her grade for 5 years. Peggy posted this photo last fall in Facebook's "You Know You are from Waseca If..."
