Daryl Sutter

Daryl Lyle Sutter died on November 18, 2019 in Coachella, California after suffering from cancer.

Daryl was born in Waseca on January 30, 1945 to John W. and Lucille (Polsfuss) Sutter.  He was their fourth son. His early education included District #7 Blooming Grove Country School.  There he was a classmate of Ken Samudio, who became a lifelong friend.  Daryl began 5th grade at Central Elementary School.  Excelling in golf, he graduated with the Waseca High School Class of 1963.  His older brothers were also alumni of Waseca High School: Joel ( '59), James ('60) and Donald ('62).

After high school, Daryl went to Mankato State College. He was most proud of being a singles and doubles champion in tennis, according to his brother Jim. After one year at MSU, he served in the Army, including the Viet Nam War.

Daryl worked at EF Johnson and in construction after his service in the Army and eventually moved to Chaska, Minnesota.

He was married to Katherine R. Mulvaney in Waseca and they were later divorced.  Their daughter,  Angela Kelly Sutter Pinkstaff, now lives in Coachella, California with her husband Larry and son Wilson.  They caused Daryl to light up and brought joy to his life, according to his brother Jim.  Angie spent the last months of Daryl's life lovingly caring for him in their home.  According to Ken Samudio,  Daryl passed on his skill and love of golf to Wilson, who is now in college and on track to be a professional golfer.  Daryl himself continued playing competitive golf as long as he could---around 500 golf tournaments, recalls Jim.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents.

Obituary was compiled by LeAnn Kugath based on interviews with Ken Samudio and James Sutter.
