1945-2016
Rorie (Rose Mary) Murphy, 70, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016, at her home near Reger, MO.
She was born Rose Mary Wells on October 1, 1945, in Fairfield, CA, the daughter of Leland Wells and Marie (Henry) Wells. She grew up in Waseca, MN, graduated from Waseca High School in 1963, and went on to receive an Associate's degree in graphic arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. After her move to Clinton, IL, she was briefly married to Gary Harris, and then to Donald Mallicoat for 15 years before his death in 1984. She met Milan resident Ronald Murphy, and they married in May 1986.
Over the course of her life, Rorie has been active in Girl Scouts, ice skating, bowling, sewing, horseback riding, and singing in the church choir. She served as a member and officer of the DeWitt County Riding Club, and was employed at Revere Copper & Brass, The Clinton Daily Journal, Sullivan County Treasurer, and Northeast Missouri Mental Health Center. She was also a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Decatur, IL, and First Baptist Church in Milan, MO. Though Rorie greatly enjoyed reading, music, fine art, jewelry, and fashion, she was most passionate about her relationship with Christ, and her faith sustained her through many heartaches and losses over the years. Her keen wit, sense of humor, and generous nature will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Murphy; her mother, Marie Wells of Waseca, MN; her brother, Leslie Wells of Waseca, MN; her daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Troy McNear; her son and daughter-in-law, Skyler and Vanessa Mallicoat; her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Sam Neisen; stepsons Lance and Kerry Murphy; grandchildren Travis Neisen, Alistair and Leah McNear, Ian McNear, Erin and Aaron Devereaux, Ross McNear, Breanna McNear, Cameron McNear, Corrie McNear, Meeghan McNear, Elizabeth Mallicoat, Hannah Mallicoat, Katherine Mallicoat, Caroline Mallicoat, and Ruth Mallicoat; and great-grandchild Harrison McNear.
She was preceded in death by father and grandparents, sister Beulah Rodney, late husband Donald Mallicoat, and infant grandson Duncan McNear.
Funeral services for Rorie will be held 1:30 PM, Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Milan. Burial will follow at Deep Springs Cemetery. A visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday evening at the First Baptist Church.

Thank you, LeAnn, for posting this recognition of Rosemary's life. While she endured so much, she was delighted to return for the class reunions even as her health was failing. She gave meaning to our excuse to gather from time to time.
