1981 History
In 1981 Many notable technological advances happened in 1981 one of the most exciting was the First Flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia. This was also the first year that the Word Internet was mentioned and MS-DOS was released by Microsoft along with the first IBM PC. On the world stage the events that captured the imagination included Lady Diana Spencer marrying Charles The Prince of Wales. In Politics a little known group before Solidarity inspire popular protests and a general strike in Poland and the government in the UK starts the process of privatization of Nationalized Industries which is later followed by many other countries around the world.  Then in June of 1981 McKinley Tech High School broke records around the city and at the school by GRADUATING THE LARGEST CLASS OF 748!!!

What was Happening at McKinley Tech in 1981!
·        
Rose Swain and Derek Longshore were crowned Mr. and Miss McKinley.
·         Derrick Jackson was voted Dr. Love for the Sweethearts Ball.
·         The Basketball Team played the consolation game at the Cole FieldHouse beating Carroll.
·         William Martin was selected to the All-Met Basketball Team, Parade All-American.
·         The Baseball Team went 13-1, Baseball Champions. Led by All –Mets, Timothy Proctor,
Leonard Hyson (deceased) and Memnar Grayton.
·         The Trainerettes Girls Basketball Team, lost in the Championship game led by All-Met
Cheryl Mitchell.
·         The Boys Soccer Team went to the Inter-High Tournament Championship and lost to Roosevelt. This was one of the most successful seasons ever at McKinley.
·         The Varsity Cheerleading Team won the Inter-high Cheerleading Competition for the 3rd
            Straight Year.
·         The Drill Team was number 1 on the east coast.
