I was on the swim team with Dave, he was a year ahead of me, graduating in 1967. He was a great guy, friendly, open, carefree and happy. I last saw him at Christmas, 1967. I was with Frank Ryan grabbing a burger at Big Top when we ran into Dave. He was on Christmas break from college and worried about flunking-out. In those days if you flunked-out your school would notify the draft board and you were almost certain to be drafted and eventually sent to the war in Vietnam. Well, that's what happened and that's where Dave was lost to us. I believe we first heard about his death around graduation, 1968. Tragic.
I was in the same class as David. He and his family lived behind me, we used to ride to CYO together at St. Thomas church.he was a great kid. I remember him always smiling. Just one of many many of our generation lost to a senseless war.
Cassidy was a great guy. Its a shame most of us never had the opportunity to really know him and have hime in our lives all these years. I thought of Dave a lot since Wilby 67 because I did not end up going to Vietnam, It bothered me that I never "really" knew why the US was involved. After viewing the recent 15 part documentary I can't get out of my mind how Dave was lost to all of us or how the Vietnam Vets were treated when they came home. Please respect all our Veterans and say a prayer for all their Families. Thanks goes out to all our Veterans.
