Mr. Scacco passed away on November 11 2023 in Palm Springs, CA at the age of 78. He taught Spanish, coached drama and directed musical productions. He also acted and directed with local theater groups in his spare time.
Some of his favorite roles included Harold Hill in Music Man, and George in George M and Jesus in Godspell. He also directed The Boy Friend, Pippin and many others. He moved to New York City to pursue a career in theatre. He created various acting roles and directing including playing opposite Patti LuPone and Louise Lasser, and featured roles on television and in movies, including The Godfather III. He performed in Amadeus at the Paper Mill Playhouse and worked with Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt on revues of their work.
In NYC, every Christmas he worked at Macy’s Herald Square - first as an elf, then Santa, and soon promoted to become manager of Santaland each year, which attracted thousands of children during holiday seasons. He told many wonderful stories about this time in his life.
After moving to Palm Springs, California, Michael worked with the Cathedral City Police Department where he developed and expanded the task force helping at-risk youth. He turned many into “at-promise” youth with his intervention and recreation programs that are still in existence today. He was a welcome fixture in the classrooms of the valley as well as a volunteer and advocate for the Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City. Never abandoning his love for singing, he became a member of Modern Men and served as their president. He looked forward to joyously singing with them this Christmas season. He leaves behind many beloved friends all over the valley. His stories, his kindness, his cooking, his generosity, his graciousness will never be forgotten.
