How to Do Stuff

Here's the instructions to do different things like:

1. Add digital pictures that are already in your computer

2.  Add actual photos to the website

3.  Set up your Classmate Profile.

It is best to turn on your printer and print out this page so you don't have to remember from memory.

ADD DIGITAL PICTURES THAT ARE ALREADY IN YOUR COMPUTER

a.  Log in with your email address and password

b.  On the left hand side of the page click on "Edit/Upload Photos"

c.  Click on "Upload new photo"

d.  Click on the box that says "BROWSE"

e.  Now you see a new screen called FIND FILE.  Find your photo the way you would look for any file.  Hopefully, you have already given the photo a unique name so that it can be found easily.  NOTE: for those who are using the instructions below about uploading actual photos, at this point, click in the box to the right of "Save in" and pull down to "Desktop".  Find your photo and proceed to the next step.

f.  When you find the photo, double click on it or click on "Open"

g.  Now you have popped back to the website and the box on the left side of "BROWSE" is full of weird words that usually starts off "C:\Documents and Settings......."

h.  Add a caption to the picture (if you wish) in the box below the the BROWSE area.

i.  Click on "SAVE CHANGES"

j.  You're uploaded on the website!!

ADD ACTUAL PHOTOS PICTURES TO WEBSITE

These instructions assume that you have a scanner attached to your computer and that you use a Microsoft Windows"-based computer

a.  Turn on your computer

b.  On your computer, click on the "Start" icon at the lower left portion of the screen.

c.  Put the cursor over "All Programs"

d.  Slide the cursor up to "Accesories" and on down to "Paint"

e.  Click on "Paint"

f.  Turn on the scanner

g.  In the Paint program, click on "File" and pull down to "From Scanner or Camera"

h.  Click on "Adjust the quality of the scanned picture"

i.  Set resolution to 300

j.  Set Picture type to "Greyscale picture"

k. Click "OK"

l.  Select "Custom Settings"

m. Place actual photo on scanner glass face down and keep it from moving (even slightly)

n. Click "Preview"

o.  Computer screen now shows a rough preview image.  Select the areas you want to scan for sure.

p.  Without moving photo, click "Scan"

q.  A typically very large picture now appears on the computer screen.  You are now finished with the scanner.

r. On the scroll bar at the top of the screen click on "Image" and pull down "Stretch/skew"

s. Change horizontal AND vertical settings from "100" to "50".

t.  Typically, the whole picture can now be seen.  If part of it is off the screen, go to "Stretch/skew" again and change the new "100" to "80".  Repeat this process, until all of your picture is on the screen.

u.  The next step is where a person has trouble (if at all).  What the Paint program considers the size of your picture is usually bigger than your picture.  The following steps lets the Paint program know what you really want.

v.  Move the horizontal scrollbar all the way to the right.  Move the vertical scrollbar all the way to the bottom.

w.  In the exact lower-right corner of the screen is a tiny blue square.  Put the cursor over that square and click and hold down WHEN YOU SEE A DOUBLE HEADED ARROW.

x.  Keep holding and move the blue square to the lower-right corner of your real photo.  NOTE: if the lower-right edge of your photo was not in view, move the blue square staight up, release the cursor, let the frame adjust and repeat the square moving process until you see the lower-right corner of your photo.

y.  Put the tiny blue square on the real lower-right corner of your photo.

z.  Save your picture by going up to "File" and pull down to "Save"

aa.  Where it says "Untitled", give your photo a title

bb. If you are not familiar with creating files, use the following straightforward steps.

cc.  At the top of the screen, click on "My pictures" and pull down to "Desktop"

dd.  Click "Save".  You're uploaded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (but only to your computer--not the website)

ee.  Go to the instructions above about "ADD DIGITAL PICTURES THAT ARE ALREADY IN YOUR COMPUTER" and follow them.

CLASSMATE PROFILE

e.  Fill in the information and follow the instructions.  We're looking for off-the-cuff, conversational comments about your life over the last 40 years; no fancy speech necessary!  You can update or change your comments at any time.  You can also change the password to a different one of your choice.

f.  If you wish to block the general public and search engines from accessing your Profle details, check the appropriate box.  If you want other classes, friends, family, etc. to be able to view your Profile page, you should leave this option unchecked.
