Gerald Medford

After graduating in 1967 I joined the Navy and spent four years working for Uncle Sam repairing aircraft in some interesting parts of the world. I was stationed in Hawaii and deployed every six months to areas in the Western Pacific. I was fortunate to spend time in California, Guam, Okinawa, Japan, Phillipines, and Adak Alaska.
After my Navy years I was ready to get back in the South and start earning a living in the civilian world. Most of my time has been spent as a Training Director for Carolina Material Handling Services. I'm still working and will be as long as my health is good.
Some of my hobbies through the years have been Shag dancing and restoring British cars. Teaching Shag for about twelve years was a lot of fun and I met a lot of people. I competed in both the Shag Nationals and Grandnationals. In 1995 I formed the Carolina Shag Team and we showcased our team throughout the Southeast. Winning the team division in 1996 at the SOS Grandnationals in Atlanta was pretty awesome.
Restoring British cars has been a pasion for me. I restored a 1973 MGBGT that took three years to complete. My wife Terri and I spend time with our Foothills British Car Club driving the twistie backroads of North and South Carolina and going to British car shows.
In 2009 I remarried. I married Terri Lane and we have enjoyed spending time together remodeling our home, cooking, visiting family and my two grandsons Felix and Coleman. My son Travis and his wife Cara lives in Asheville.

My.........Too many to talk about! I do have a lot of fond memories of sock hops, being the first graduating class of Tuscola, The Pines (what memories there! the Tams, Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs,Spontanes, Georgia Profits), Charlies Place, Waynesville Drive In, going to the races at Asheville with Ricky Edwards and Sam stopping at the "Last Chance",Mack Harrells Plymouth Barracuda, teaching Sara Sutton (Kirkpatrick) how to lay down a good blackmark in the road and getting stopped for speeding in Asheville coming from the Pines, taking Linda Stroup (Nobeck) to our first school May dance, hanging out at the Youth Center at Lake Junaluska in the summer,and dances at the Womens Club. Those were the good ole days and I will always remember the good times I have had with all my classmates back in the day.
