What a nice quiet riot. Better not have gotten in his way on kick offs in football or you were TOAST!!! Man could he hit like a ram. Miss his demeanor.
i sat next to him in miss waters english. he was quiet as ever and really, really nice. i heard the stories about him on the football field. thats funny you say that tommy, because you wouldn't know it by his demeanor. but people use to say that about him on the football field.
I met John Jay the first day of football practice before freshman year. We had to pick someone our size to line up across from and practice hitting each other. One of the many mistakes in my life was that I picked Jon Jay Reck. I think my shoulder was numb for a week and I don't think he even made a sound through the entire experience. I have never met a guy that had such a quiet and peaceful demeanor but at the same time enjoyed inflicting pain on the football field.
I remember one time we lined up against the seniors when we were sophomores. Stumpy Staffilino came through the hole and John Jay knocked him on his ass. Stumpy could barely get up and when he did he couldn't believe that it was quiet little John that did it. Stumpy started screaming and wanted to fight. John Jay stood emotionless and half staring at the ground sort of above it all.
