Edgewood High School combined with West Covina High School in 1988, mostly for financial reasons. The new West Covina High STUDENTS voted on and chose the colors Maroon and Gold and the Bulldog as mascot. Faculty and some staff moved from Edgewood into positions at the West Covina campus. Trojan Green and Gold and Spartan Blue and White and the Alma Maters of each were "retired" to form a new school, but with the name still West Covina High School. A shock and trauma for many for many years, but today's school spirit and faculty and staff and students continue to be excellent representatives for the city of West Covina. The Edgewood High School campus was converted to a 6th--8th grade middle school in 1988, and remains so, however, now part of the campus is a new high school and is called Edgewood High, but the colors and mascot are different than ours were.

School Story

I have been fortunate to graduate from Edgewood High School with the class of 1965 as a Trojan; to join the faculty of West Covina High School in 1972 as a Spartan; and to continue teaching there until 2013 as a Bulldog. I live in the Pasadena area, but I love to follow WCHS football and visit friends still teaching at either campus. Several faculty members from Edgewood became my colleagues at West Covina, which made it extra special for me. I always felt at home!

Hi Penny! I remember how nice it was to see you again at the 50th reunion celebration. Del Norte, Bethany Baptist, the neighborhood we grew up in with our school friends on every street around us are things that come to my mind now more than ever. I've been in touch with several classmates on this site and also on Facebook which brings memories that I haven't thought about in a long time. What street was your house on? I know you lived close to me and Susie Trimble and Karen Moser and Herma Smith, and Tina Thon on Yaleton. I saw your birthday listed on this site and wanted to wish you a Great Happy Birthday! from a long ago friend. Hoping you and your family are doing well, Peggy Test.

Hi Bill. It's almost September; what happened to July? I don't see a Happy Birthday Wish to you here, but I remember it being posted on the site Upcoming ones. What's a Belated Birthday Wish on this world's carousel? "Sunrise, Sunset." May yours all be worthy of celebration!

Hi Sue! I was thinking of all the lovely birthday wishes you've sent to our class members through the years: Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I'm shouting it in all caps so you can hear it wherever you are today. So Cal people are just a crowded freeway away: Cheers, to a Great Neighbor!

Hi Pat! Hope your Birthday Celebration carries you forward all year. I had a great time at the EHS All Classes Reunion in July, and it was nice to see some of the same faces that were at the 55 + 1 in Vegas. 60th coming up. Keep dancing with Paul 'til then!

Happy Birthday, Elfe! I read Sue's comment about your senior yearbook portrait and I completely agree. I'm curious about the surname "Blessing." Any stories you would care to share? Have a great celebration today!

Hey, Cathy, Happy Birthday! I hope you and the family are all doing well. School Daze at WCUSD seem further and further away, don't they? Daze seems to fit everything now! Celebrate your Special Day!

Hi Ron, and Happy Birthday! I love your high school and Navy photos! I didn't see you in our senior yearbook pictures: is there a story somewhere? It seems like I remember the alphabetical people with last names that start with R's and S's and T's the best. Hope your birthday day is worth putting "another candle on the birthday cake!"

Howard! I sputtered that when you came and stood behind me at the picnic photo shoot of our class. I almost fell off the stage because I was so happy to see you again. Thank you for posting your stories on this site and telling us a bit of the old and the new. Several of us are friends of Rick Romero on FB and he's mentioned you many times. I agree with Rita; please keep in touch and attend next year if possible. How I remember Mr. Shirey's distain for us leaving early from scheduled classes to participate in the ceremonial hall rituals!(Rallies in the gym!) Glad to hear you are happy and doing well.

Happy Birthday, Bill! Good times this past weekend and keep celebrating with a toast, or maybe even a large ribeye steak! (It was delicious--Northwoods Inn doesn't suck!)

Hi Nancy. Happy "Hot Days" Birthday! I didn't realize you live close to West Covina, and I just saw Marianne Mack Turk's post hoping you could attend the All Classes Picnic Reunion, which was yesterday, the 20th. Quite a few went from our class and Marianne and Bruce were there! The Picnic is always the 3rd Saturday of July, and next year it's scheduled for July 19th. Save that date to celebrate with Marianne and many other classmates! I want to hear about your experiences with improv comedy. No joke!

Michel, Happy Birthday! It was nice getting to meet you and Mary at the Class Reunion Picnic in 2023. I didn't realize (or forgot!) you guys came from Ashland, OR. I see your two daughters are "80's" babies as my daughter is, too. Hope you're having a great celebration for birthdays and any other excuse!

Hi Rita. I knew July 7th was in my head for something: Happy Birthday!!!!! I hope the smoke and pollutants were not too bad on the coast for the 4th. I was at a friend's in Glendora, across from the neighborhood of Azusa where the fireworks (illegal, huge, loud) never stopped! All you have to do is sit in a lawn chair in front and watch the show as long as you want. I heard on the news that Glendora (backed up against the foothills) was one of the worst polluted areas in the Nation the day after! Oh well, we grew up in SMOG and maybe it strengthened our lungs. I'll see you at the picnic, joyfully.

Hi Linda. Your description of Roger and your MLB life is wonderful. I taught English at WCHS for as many years as Mrs. Owers, I imagine. Student names with the same initial letter became harder and harder to get the right one with the right person. Melinda, Merrie, and Michelle would probably have me stuttering! Congratulations on your beautiful progeny--even if all their names begin with "M" ! Hope your birthday celebration included lots of family mmmmembers.
