After highschool I bummed around for a few years and then joined the Navy. I spent time in Florida, Tennesee and California before making the move to the Houston area in 1989.
Employed by Dow Chemical for 19 years, primarily in the process analytical field. I am such a geek that I honestly love my job. I have also worked closely with Dow's Diversity and Inclusion group for the past 8 years and as past president of The Gays, Lesbians, and Allies at Dow have been given opportunites to travel quite a bit and present the Dow model at a variety of conferences.
I am on the board of AssistHers and spend a lot of my free time taking care of handicapped and disabled women as well as working with Texas Airedale Rescue and various other rescue groups.
My work with Assisthers has been a wonderful experience and I have met some fabulous 80+ women with many wonderful stories.
I always have some sort of home improvement project in the works and when I get the perfect house I sell it and move on to the next project. I also enjoy camping and bought a motor home last summer in PA. RV'ing back to Texas was wonderful but now it is mostly short trips around Texas with a small group of wonderful friends.
My partner Karen and I both enjoy cooking, baking and of course sampling our newest creations. We do share and most of the baked goodies are distributed to our little old ladies.
I still love to read. I try to find time for at least one book a week although it is tough with all of the other activity in my life. I also enjoy history and science and am a member of the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
We have 4 dogs who are ours. Bentley the Airedale, Bridgett the Bassett and Jax and Walter the little chihuahua boys and of course there is the occassional rescue that we foster until they find a good furever home. The pups are a great source of entertainment and also provide us with our exercise with daily walks in the park.
Family is still very important and quite scattered around the US so most of our vacations are spent visiting with them. My sister Kim's family are still in PA, Matt and his bunch are in California, Dad and my aunts and uncles are in Florida, and Mom and most of Karen's family are here in Texas.
Life has been really good to me. I love my family, my friends and my job. Houston is a great place to live and work. I am very much a city girl these days and love having easy access to the museums, plays and other things only a big city can offer. I do hate the summer heat and I still hope someday to have a summer retirement home in PA where I can enjoy the beauty of nature and that wonderful feeling of home.
