Shelene Kankovsky (Waters) (1991)
Hey Everyone! First, thanks to Shane for getting the ball rolling on this, and for setting up this awesome website. I mainly want to just get everyone on the same page with what has already been discussed on Facebook...here are some of the main highlights:
From Dave Roman: Amazing what an idea does when it gets out in the cyber world. I think a date in late June, such as the 17,18,19 or 24,25,26 of 2011 would be a good time to have it. I also think we need to have it someplace like Vegas so people can fly in. Just a thought. I guess as a core, we need to come up with a date and place and then proceed to get that out to everyone. The more people who know about a date then people can start planning how they are going to get there and if they can make it. Shane Burton suggested Vegas and I think it is smart as there always seems to be cheap flights from almost everywhere. We can then continue to locate people from all those classes that we haven't heard from in years and let them know. We can finalize details (hotels, dinners, cocktails and such) as Shelene put it about a year in advance. At that time we could ask for strong committments from people so we know how many to expect. Let me know what you all think. Hi to Gary, Angela, Shelene and all the rest of you.
From Gary Christenson: I think we should be open to the idea of including me :)... Maybe Tami Bowers as well. I'm all for 2011, but not so keen on Vegas. I'd prefer West, but will go along with the consensus. We could certainly open the location up for discussion. Seattle would be another alternative (for example) - many people have wound up in the Northwest. The tickets from Europe are bloody expensive in June, but I can afford it once in 20 years... Preferably early June. Again, I'm open - and would really look forward to seeing everyone again (even in Vegas in late June:) G
From Holly Jacobs: I agree with you on West. I would prefer meeting in West as well but will go along with what everyone thinks is best. Vegas works better for me than Seattle though. Too far away and no relatives nearby to watch the kids. :)
From Matt Gooding: Gang, first of all I think this is a great idea. Are we be thinking of this as an adults only gathering or would we be including families? If its West or someplace like the North West then I'll probably try and plan our families summer vacation around it. If its Vegas the kids will need to stay home.
From Heather Johnson: If everyone does come to West, I know someone that could get killer deals on motel rooms and transportation into Yellowstone if that would be interesting. :} (The lake hotel is a fantastic dinner local).
From me (Shelene): Lots of really good input so far. I'm all for including Early Albin Roman and Tami Bowers...and anyone else who was a part of our high school experience. I've also suggested at one point or another that, while we focus specifically on tracking down and inviting everyone from '90, '91, and '92, we should also keep it open to anyone else who hears about it an wants to come.
As far as whether to have it in West, Vegas, or somewhere else, I am completely open. My vote is that we get Shane Burton's website up and running, distribute the URL as widely as possible, then give everyone a couple of months to cast their votes. We can, at the same time, have people vote on specific weekends, although it sounds like early June is the general consensus so far.
From what I've been able to glean from this, while lots of people are ready to help out, the volunteer planners so far are Tonya Tenney and Holly Jacobs; me, Shane Burton, and Dave Roman; and Angela Hultz and Gary Christenson. Have I left out anyone who wanted to have a larger, more official hand in organizing this, or erroneously added anyone who wants out? Obviously, depending on the location, we may be calling more on other people for help...sounds like Heather and Roxy would be able to really help us out if it is held in West. (Speaking of, someone needs to get Roxy's butt on Facebook!)
So, anyways...Shane, let us all know when your website is up and running...that way we can make sure to open this up to people beyond our Facebook world. Until then, everyone keep adding your input! It's great to hear from you all!
That's all for now! Thanks again, Shane!
