I attended Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts majoring in psychology. We moved from Westfield to Wilton, Connecticut in 1974. I spent a semester in Madrid, Spain, and did some travel in Europe. After graduation in 1977, I spent a memorable summer as an intern, in Northern California serving high school students. I returned to Connecticut in the fall and soon joined IBM. I worked primarily in sales, sales operations, and training. After my daughter was diagnosed with a rare disease, I decided to focus my energy on helping her thrive through her physical therapies and personal care. Ever since I worked part time in sales training consulting, as a marketing manager, and eventually 20 years in educational therapy. Being available for my daughter gave me a breath of experiences I never imagined. In spite of being wheelchair-bound, she was active in school, and we had fun tailgating at her father’s alma mater cheering on the University of Georgia Bulldogs. In part-time retirement, I devoted my last three years in helping my parents transition into heaven, and were their primary caregivers. I continue to enjoy helping others improve their health, utilizing my experience with nutrition.

If you’re no longer working (or plan to retire soon), how and where do you plan to “do” retirement?

My husband and I love nature and hiking in the woods and would love to be able to spend part time in the mountains. We will always be geographically close to our daughter to serve as back up caregivers when the time comes when she can live independently. I already mentioned my passion for helping others with health. I’m also passionate about advocating for my daughter’s needs, especially in the battles she fights to overcome many obstacles as a professional working.

When you look back at the last 50 years (where you’ve lived/career choice/interests), what might most surprise your classmates?

Our daughter has Muscular Dystrophy and thriving even still. I have learned how to be a long-term caregiver and advocate. I have learned how to interact with the medical community as well. I’ve lived longer in the south now that I’m in Atlanta, and then I have lived in the Northeast.

Happy birthday, Dick! Wow! You have applied many talents in your work. Jealous about no noise at your house. Who is part of the “our” house?
