It is with sadness but also great pride for the brave fight my brother Robert Schatz fought against cancer. Sadly at 12:59am on July 17 Bobert lost that battle with cancer. Bobert had been with us since his last chemo in Dec of 2023. We celebrated Christmas together and his birthday in February. He fought hard to build his strength back. By April he was able with minimal assistance to get up and down the 5 steps into the house. He was able to navigate his way around again with the assistance of walker. Also by April he was able to take showers with me just being outside the curtain to wash his back at the end. It was more than a pleasure helping him...it was a privilege. I will at a later date and also on his own FB page post a more detailed obit. We will also be planning a celebration of life for him that will include food and refreshments for those who attend. Bobert donated his body to science and in the coming months we will receive a letter that will detail how he contributed to science for others. All though there will be no burial, donations in his name to https://delawarehospice.org/donate/ would be greatly appreciated. They were a huge help to us through the entire time he came home from the hospital on June 24. Also great thanks to Dr Dobson of Tidal Health who admitted him on June 21 for 3 days of blood transfusion to have the energy to come back home with us. The extra days we got was truly a blessing. Family visited him in those extra weeks. weeks. His daughter Sandra Timmerman Lacey came up from S.C. Her phone calls also brightened his days. Many other family came to spend time. Also phone calls. His son John Schatz and Jamie Timmerman spent the weekend and helped Deborah Cantwell and I immensely. That Friday July12..he mustered up the energy to spend a little over 6 hours at the dining room table and devoured an Arby's Roast beef and fries. Those 2 young men turned what would have been a mundane weekend into a few days keeping a smile on their dad's face. Robert Schatz thanked all who called and came. Those moments truly made him both happy and proud. Thank you all again who offered prayers, love and support to him in the past year. It truly made a difference for all of us here. Deborah Cantwell and I thank each and everyone for those prayers and support. I had to make some difficult phone calls and still have some to make. God Speed Robert Schatz...until we meet again on the other side of the Gate to Heaven. Bobert was a saved Christian.
