School Story:
Unremarkable high school student. Won 5th at state in Spanish pronounciation contest (thanks to encouragement from Mr. Rathjen (sp?). I learned that it's unwise to get high before typing class. Worked as a custodial aide at the high school for a while. One day I fell asleep in study hall and work up to hear a teacher at the front of the room explaining that Pres. Reagan had been shot. I was pretty sure I was dreaming because everyone around me was different than when I had fallen asleep and it all seemed surreal, until I realized that I had woken up during the next period study hall. It was awkward getting up and walking out. I try to be compassionate with my students who aren't always on top of their game.
