Louanna Miriam Harris
November 18, 1947 — November 25, 2019
Louanna died peacefully at age 72, holding her loving daughter Erin’s hand, after a long battle with pain and hardship.
Much of her life was filled with joy, laughter, and travels with friends and family in Europe and Central and South America. The many people who will always love her remember her for her beauty, humor, and uncommon character. She would say anything to anyone, and while her honesty could be shocking, it was often refreshing.
In her youth Louanna studied fashion, film, anthropology, and she had a special affinity for traditional cultures such as those of the Otavalos in Ecuador. She loved exploring, cooking, reading, drawing, painting, and she created some of her best works together with her dad Owen, who was a brilliant woodcarver. For many years she owned a children’s resale shop in Shorewood called Kids’ Stuff.
Louanna was a devoted daughter to Owen and her mother Georgianna (Jan), and saw to their care with deep love in their old age. When she later suffered health problems herself, her daughter and many kind caregivers saw to her wellbeing with the same dedication that she had given her parents.
Never traditional, deeply intelligent, vibrantly passionate, intensely brave, and fiercely rebellious and open-minded, Louanna is deeply missed.
She’s survived by her daughter Erin, sister Linda, several cousins, and lifelong friends.
A celebration of her life will take place on December 6 at 3:00pm at Feerick Funeral Home on Capitol Drive in Shorewood. Drinks will be held privately after the service to toast her passage into peace. Erin will later sprinkle her ashes over the Andes of Ecuador according to her wishes.
If you knew Louanna, you know that she would want you to enjoy life even in sad times — and to honor the good times with your favorite memories of sharing laughter and love with her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Wisconsin Humane Society (https://www.wihumane.org/donate/memorials-honorary-gifts) or any of the following providers that brought Louanna care and comfort: Abundant Life Manor (https://alm-milw.org/make-a-donation/), EnergyWorks Healers (http://www.energyworkshealers.com/), St. Croix Hospice (https://stcroixhospice.com/)
