HEALEY, Sydney Sydney McCampbell Healey died on August 19, 2015 peacefully at her home after a fifteen (15) year battle with brain cancer. Conditioned naturally with a battle-ready mentality in the face of her terminal ailment, Sydney lived a remarkably fruitful and fulfilling life, not surprising in the least to those who knew her inspirational tenacity. Sydney was born on August 13, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska as the first child of Catherine and Robert McCampbell. With roots sewn in the Midwest from her father and from Waynesboro, Georgia of her mother, Sydney had fond memories of her rearing in St. Louis, Missouri. Sydney attended Sweet Briar College and graduated from the University of Georgia where she served as Vice President of Kappa Kappa Gamma, majoring in French, a passion she carried with her throughout her life. After moving to Atlanta, Sydney met and married Lamar Frederick "Freddie" Glass, Jr., with whom she raised their three children, Porter, Robert, and Emily. All that knew her would readily describe Sydney as a dedicated and caring mother who passed along many wonderful virtues to her children, the most important of which being honesty and sincerity. In 2008, Sydney had the good fortune of marrying Quill Orme Healey of Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout her marriage, Sydney was a loving wife, dedicated companion, and thoughtful friend who could always be counted on, even though living life with an indefinite struggle with a brain tumor. Sydney always carried herself with dignity and poise as she persevered through even her most challenging years. She learned to play and love the game of golf and shared her love of the game with Quill over her final years. Despite her terminal condition, Sydney managed to live a full and meaningful life, and took special pride in knowing and loving her five grandchildren. Sydney embodied true courage. Everyone that knew her would readily agree. She was - and will always be - an inspiration to us all. Sydney was a proud member of the Piedmont Driving Club, Christ Church of Atlanta, and Cherokee Garden Club. Throughout her life she enjoyed tennis, golf, gardening, and painting. Her positivity, beauty and laughter will always bring joy to those that knew and loved her. Sydney was preceded in death by her father, Robert Preble McCampbell and her mother, Catherine Jones McCampbell. She is survived by her husband, Quill Orme Healey; her three children, Catherine Porter Glass, Robert Lamar Frederick Glass, and Emily Glass Flannery; her beloved grandchildren, Zoe Elizabeth Cannon, Lucy Annelise Cannon, Silas Frederick Cannon, Catherine Meriwether Glass, and Robert Lamar Frederick Glass, Jr.; and her sister Marcia Preble McCampbell and brother Robert Preble McCampbell, Jr.
