Rob and I were just talking about Don the other day. He had transfered in from Bullard in our Junior year as I recall, and was a great guy. He had worked at Casa Ole off Shiloh for several years after High School, and I would often bring dates and he would always bring free drinks. He was the sort of guy "in whom there was no guile"; I'm sure that his family will sorely miss him.

U.S. 380 accident kills city worker
11:10 AM CDT on Saturday, June 14, 2008
By Donna Fielder/Staff Writer
A city utility worker died early Friday in a two-vehicle traffic accident on U.S. Highway 380.

Donald Morton, 37, was a residential route driver for the city solid waste department and had worked in the department since April 2004.

“We are in contact with his family, and our hearts and prayers are with them during this difficult time,” said city spokesman John Cabrales. “We also plan to have a counselor on the work site on Monday for any solid waste employee who might need some assistance.”

According to Denton police, Morton was westbound on University Drive about 11:30 p.m. and approaching an eastbound Ford F-150 pickup driven by a McKinney man. At the intersection of University and Nottingham, both were facing a flashing yellow caution light. According to the accident report, Morton’s Honda turned left to access Nottingham, turning into the path of the truck.

Neither vehicle appeared to be speeding, according to the accident report.

The driver of the pickup was not injured. Morton was taken to Denton Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight. According to a report from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, he died of blunt force trauma from the accident.
