I graduated from South in January of 1979, turned 18 in February of 1979, and was married in March of 1979. I was a busy girl!
I began working in the banking industry before I finished high school and continued on that path for several years until our first daughter was born. I quit working to raise she and our second daughter who came along about two years later.
When the girls started school, I returned to the work force as a bookkeeper and continued in that line of work until May of 1999 when the tornado hit Haysville and south Wichita. At that time, much to my family's dismay, I left my gainful employment for the long but very fulfilling hours of volunteer work.
In January of 2000, I opened Simple House Family Assistance Center, an organization that supplies food, clothing and household items to families in need. What a fantastic experience!!! In 2007, I turned the reigns over to a church in downtown Wichita and they now operate Simple House as an outreach ministry.
Dave and I started "A Current Affair", an electrical contracting business, in February of 2008. We closed our business in April of 2016 and took some time to reevaluate our lives and goals. Dave began working for MABCD as an electrical inspector in May of 2017. We purchased a house in October of 2017.
Life was rocking along well then Covid got me in January 2020, I had to retire due to a heart condition and COPD that showed up after my bout with Covid. June 2020 brought our lives to a screeching halt when Dave suffered seven to 10 strokes, a heart attack and a subsequent brain bleed. He now has vascular dementia and has therapy five days a week. It keeps us busy but at least we’re still here to torment our kids and grandkids!!
