Robert Hanson Obituary

Robert G. "Bob" Hanson, age 81, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of May 24, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. He was a world-class athlete, accomplished businessman, devoted husband and father, and a man of much faith.

Bob was born on July 4, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas, to Gordon and Martha Hanson and spent most of his life proudly calling Wichita home. He attended Wichita East High School, where he discovered both a talent and a passion for track, winning multiple state titles in the 100-yard dash and the 220-yard and 180-yard low hurdles. He continued his athletic career at the University of Kansas on scholarship, where he set a world-record-tying mark of 6.7 seconds in the 60-yard low hurdles, and captured the Big 8 individual title in the 60-yard low hurdles in both 1965 and 1966, going on to win the 1966 National Championship with his team.

Bob earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Kansas and later completed his master's degree in management from Wichita State University. While at Wichita State, he met his wife, Bonnie. Together, they built a life centered on faith and family, and raised two sons, Chris and Craig.

Bob founded Omega Management, a real estate management firm, in 1976 with his partner, Nestor Weigand, Jr. He also founded Omega Senior Living with his son, Craig, in 2016 and led various other real estate and business ventures during his career. Bob earned and held the trust of his partners and clients. His strong work ethic and the genuine enjoyment he took from his work were evident as, even in the later years of his life, he continued going to the office nearly every day.

Bob had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid bass fisherman, a hunter, and a nature enthusiast. Above all, he cherished his family, valued lasting friendships, and lived his life as a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Despite his many accomplishments, Bob was an unusually humble man. He led by example with integrity and quiet confidence.

He is survived by his sons, Chris Hanson and Craig Hanson, and his grandchildren: Noah, Ian, Mabel, Cole, Luke, Sydney, Tristan, and Gavin.
