In Memory

Ken P Steffens

Kenneth Paul Steffens, 80, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on December 21, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. Ken is preceded in death by his parents, William and Hedwig (Arkie) Steffens; his sons, Christopher Steffens and Dylan Steffens; and his close friend, Kathy Brown. Ken is survived by his son, David (Celeste) Steffens and grandson, Jack Steffens; his sister, Betty Steffens; brother, Don (Charlotte) Steffens; and niece and nephews.

To Ken, life was one big adventure. He had diverse interests and knowledge across many fields. Ken worked in multiple careers throughout his lifetime including chemist, entrepreneur, pilot, substitute teacher, and other occupations. He had an openness and willingness to embrace new experiences. When Ken was of retirement age, he went to New Zealand and Australia to try bungee jumping and scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. No matter his actual age, Ken always had a youthful energy. He had a cheerful and lighthearted disposition and was quick to laughter. Ken made friends everywhere he went, and it was not unusual for him to be engaged in interesting conversations with people he had just met while traveling.

At Wichita East High School, Ken was active on the track team and ran relays, hurdles, and pole vaulted. He continued in track at Wichita State University. Ken graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from Wichita State University and an M.B.A from DePaul University. Ken loved sports and once gave his fifth grade son, David, a choice between attending a Wichita State basketball game together or attending David's choir finale Christmas concert (they chose the game). Ken enjoyed attending sporting events, snow skiing, and racing cars with the Sports Car Club of America. He was a proud longtime member of the Wichita Wagonmasters, a civic organization dedicated to making a positive impact on the city of Wichita.

Ken will be greatly missed for the joy, love, and humor he brought to the lives of his family and friends.

A private memorial gathering for family and close friends will be held on January 11, 2025.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Ken and our family.
