Born in Hockessin, Delaware, Scott graduated from Alexis I. duPont High in 1988. Scott led the swim team to two State Championships and four Conference titles. He capped his Senior year with three Gold medals. Scott was awarded a scholarship to Florida State where he became an All-American Swimmer.

In 1996, while working as a lifeguard in Delray Beach, Florida, Scott won gold medals at the National Lifeguard championships in the 500 meter swim and the Line Pull events. Later that year , Scott was picked as a member of "Team Florida", an Elite group of six Lifeguards who represented Florida in the World Lifesaving Championships in Hawaii. Scott brought his team from fifth during the swim relay to First place passing top swimmers from around the world.
