GRACE K. SINGER, LANGUAGE TEACHER FEB. 10, 1905 -- AUG. 22, 2004

Grace Kenyon Singer , who taught languages at Wilson Central School, died Sunday in her Wilson home. She was 99.

Born in Lisbon, St. Lawrence County, she graduated in 1925 from St. Lawrence University, where she majored in Latin and French. She taught languages at Wilson Central School from 1927 to 1930, and from 1942 to 1964.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Wilson. Active in the Wilson community, she was a 52-year member of the Delphic Society, a longtime member of the Wilson Historical Society and the Friends of the Wilson Library, a member of several bridge clubs and a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association.

She was revered by former students and followed their careers with interest. She enjoyed traveling, visiting Europe first in 1929 and six times between 1962 and 1984. She also traveled to Mexico, and to Australia on her 80th birthday.

She married Harold T. Singer , who operated fruit farms in Appleton and Wilson. He died in 1975. Singer Farms, founded in 1918, remains a family concern, with a son, Thomas, of Appleton, one of the owners.

Survivors also include five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Exley United Methodist Church, 338 Lake St. Private burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
