In Memoriam

Cynthia Clarke Meyers

Jane White Ward writes:

Cynthia C. Meyers went to Colorado College. I would like to share a poem she wrote before she passed away of cancer in 1971. Sometimes When the wind is a kiss through a veil of sun-glinted hair, I slip away and recall When life was a whistle that echoed in the mist of morning And elfin magic abounded in dandelions and milkweed pods that burst into puffs of fairy wings. Sometimes...I smile and cling to the day when I saw that weeds are flowers after all. Cindy Meyers

What sweet thougths. She was a very special person in my life and influenced me tremendously. It was the hardest time in my life when I was a Sophomore in college hearing the news from my mother she passed away. In high school; I had a very hard time sorting out what was happening to her. I can still remember the day she said she was going to the doctor, because she felt bad and this was in high school. Her parents were wonderful, but it was a time when no one admitted they had cancer. And how dare cancer discovered her at such a young age.

Cindy was one of my closest friends until high school. Until then, I have many happy memories with her and her family. When she died, I was so sad we’d lost touch and I wasn’t there for her. She was smart, kind, and sensitive. Too soon gone. With love, Leslie Lee
