
Harold “Popeye” Abshire, 60 of Winnie, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. He was born on November 27, 1952, in Anahuac, to Lillian and Curtis Abshire.
Popeye was a self-employed plumber for many years and passionately enjoyed duck and goose hunting.
He is survived by his daughters, Valarie Cumberland and her husband, Bo of Dayton; Amanda Abshire; and Jessica Abshire, of Winnie; son, William Abshire and his wife, Dana, of Austin; father, Curtis Abshire; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Concetta Rollins and her husband, Malcol-m; Kim Mazzola and her husband, Johnny; and Kay Benson; brother, Tommy Abshire all of Winnie; a host of other family members and friends.
Popeye was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Johnny Abshire.
A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2013, with a Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 1, 2013, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
