Sam Braun

Moved to Baytown in 1973 to go to work at US Steel. Left US Steel in 1984 to go to work at Exxon. I married Sandra in 1987 I don't know how she has put up with me all these years. She is truly incredible. I retired from Exxon in 2005,since then we keep busy with many activities. We have a Ranch in south Texas that we enjoy hunting on. We also like to entertain our friends and family out there. I survived cancer in 2006 (Multiply Myeloma) since then I volunteer with the American Cancer Society by driving cancer patients to their appointments. These are people who either have no family or friends who could drive them. I really get a lot of pleasure doing this. I have got to meet some really neat people. I feel blessed to get to do this. My wife Sandra is a realtor so she has to work a lot of the time,but we do find time to travel. We have been to several of the 50 States and have been to Europe. We have two grandsons and expecting a granddaughter. They take up a lot of our time and we enjoy every minute of it. In the last year we have started flipping houses. We aren't getting rich doing it but it has proved to be more fun than I thought it would be. Other than that we don't do much. Sometimes I wonder how I had time to do anything when I was working lol.

A couple of things a teacher had told the class one day that has stood out to me for all these years.
It was in Mr. McDonalds history or geography class. I don't remember,but what I do remember is what he devoted that whole hour to. He started out by telling all of us the finality of suicide. He told us no matter how bad things were this was not an option. He was able to make me understand there were no do overs when you chose suicide.
The other thing that he talked about was cussing. The way he explained it was even tho it might not be very flattering certain curse words were ok to use. He also made it very clear there was one curse word that we should never use. That was taking God's name in vain. These two suggestions I take very serious to this day.
