Kathryn Glenn Allred passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Kathryn was born in Winston-Salem, NC, on April 24, 1954, to the late Mary Stevens Glenn and Samuel Bailey Glenn Jr. She graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and Appalachian State University with a degree in Education. "Kat Kat" whom she was fondly named by her special niece Bailey Kate, worked in special education at Sherwood Forest Elementary School, where she won teacher of the year award. She would retire after 13 years, but later worked as a substitute teacher at the school for many years.
Kat Kat was a special person to many, always there to provide support and love to her family and friends. Kathryn was a caregiver by nature, this characteristic can be seen through the outpouring of love she received. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Kathryn enjoyed music, especially the Rolling Stones, whom she traveled to see throughout her life.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents; her loving son, Bailey Allred, who passed in 2004; and nephews, Sam and Henry Marshall. She is survived by Donnie Allred; her two sons, Dax Allred and wife Nichole, Bill Allred and wife Molly; four grandchildren, Olivia, Declan, Grady, and Maddy; two brothers, John Folger Glenn and wife Gabrielle of Florence, S.C. and Bill Glenn and wife Tammy, of Winston-Salem; a sister, Mary Frances "Tootie" and husband John "Paco" Marshall of Chapel Hill, NC; nieces and nephews, Jack Marshall, wife Mary Hannah, and their newborn son, Frankie, Amelie Burbage and children, Gabe and Ciele, Cerre Dolby and husband Chris, and their children, Henri and August, Bailey Kate Glenn, Jack, and Jessica.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 15th, at Salem Funeral Home, Reynolda Chapel, 2951 Reynolda Rd., Winston-Salem, NC, 27106. A reception will be held following the service at the funeral home.
