What have you been up to since high school:
After graduation, I worked and went to school part-time. In 1986, while preparing to go to Highlands Community College to studying to become an X-ray Technician, I found out I was in renal failure. I was on dialysis from 1986 to 1990. On, June 12th, 1990 Dennis (my uncle, Denise and my Dad's youngest brother) gave me one of his kidneys at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville TN. The kidney is still going strong. I am going on my 19th anniversary with it. GOD IS GOOD!!!
After my transplant, I decided I wanted to give something back to all the wonderful nurses and doctors as well as the patients that I came in contact with during my 4 year ordeal. I went to Mountain Empire Community College where I received an Associates Degree then went to Virginia Intermont College where I earn a Bachelor's of Social Work. I have had the privledge to work with the young and the not so young. It has really been an interesting experience. I currently work as a Counselor with young men and women between the ages of 16 to 25 who are struggling to earn a High School diploma or GED as well as to learn a construction type trade to become productive citizens.
