Where to begin, how about after graduation; I got into an accident and started college a semester late. I ended up graduating in 3 1/2 years from Wells College. At Wells, I majored in math and had a minor in biology. What next? Originally it was medical school and surgery residence; however, my accident changed my perspective. So back to Moultonborough to work as an EMT (Stewart's Ambulance, I had an in with the owner) and lifeguard while deciding what would be next.
On to Philadelphia in search of a job: worked for an artist management company, as a booking agent. It was great fun setting up tours for classical artists, such as solo performances, orchestral performances, master classes at universities, young concert series and of course living in center city Philadelphia. Loved living in a city, everything close, exciting and vibrant, who could ask for anything more, oh yeah good paying job. Got a bit bored, not seeing opportunities in current job and father was not doing well due to colon and liver cancer, moved back to NH.
Lived and worked in Lincoln NH, working for Waterville Valley Corp and then Loon Mountain Corp. Got to ski and have fun – always a plus. Became a guru at computer system and hotel software – landed a job in Vail CO for the Lodge at Vail. Really great to ski everyday, run hotel front office operations and expand knowledge of hotel software. You may notice a theme – got bored and leveraged my knowledge of systems into business analyst job with AIG. That was way before all the bailouts, etc. Working for AIG brought me back to NH, working on merger and acquisition of NH Insurance and decided to start an MBA program. The M&A was great experience, but very emotionally draining, so I decided to finish my masters at UNH. Longer story, but grad assistance program did not work out and worked as a grant writer for NH Job Training Council.
I wanted to stay in New England, since my Dad was still battling the effects of cancer and tainted blood that gave him HepC. Once done with MBA program, started applying for jobs in New England – landed a job with Digital Equipment Corporation. As I update this it had been 20 days short of 20 years with the respective companies – DEC, Compaq and HP. I have now been at Intel Corp for the last two years. Excited to have celebrated 29 years with my partner. Lots of twists and turns in the days since high school, as I am sure are true about all of us. I have managed to stay in touch with Jamie Hovey and Todd Comstock (who I see at least once every six weeks) along the way and I did not make it reunion as I was stuck in some city for work.
Living on Kittery Point, looking at Spruce Creek everyday (when I am home) is the only place I want to be. I feel lucky to still be working out of my home office. While it means more driving around New England to work with researchers– I get to come home.
