2025 Reunion Attendee Statements

1.  From Kevin Buckman; attended our 52 year reunion, promptly joined your reunion committee, immediately offered the following for all classmates' awareness, tragically passed just three short months later.

 

WOW! I Needed This…

I can’t thank the class of 73’s reunion committee enough for their dogged determination in tracking me down. Not easy finding someone for whom they had no email address and who had no X, Tik Toc, IG, Facebook, Linked In, or any other social media footprint. But somehow someone found an address and I received a letter in the mail instructing me to “HOLD THE DATE-September 12-14, 2025” (in bold red). I went to my Day Timer (yes, a few of us still use ‘em), saw nothing scheduled so I blocked the three days off in Bold Red Ink signifying these three days were non-negotiable and immoveable. I was all in and committed. Shamefully, I could not remember ever attending a previous reunion and couple that with the “Runway” getting shorter every day… the decision was made.

Those three reunion days were the best personal investment of time, energy, and effort I have made in many years. The events were simple and satisfying… the highlight of each event was the opportunity to be in each other’s company. It was the exact opposite of Hollywood’s stereotypical snarky portrayal of high school reunions.

After attending the class of 73’s 52 year reunion, these were my thoughts and take aways as I made my five-hour journey home: Attending high school reunions, particularly those celebrating 50 years or more, offers a unique opportunity for individuals to reconnect with their past and reflect on their life’s journey. These gatherings often serve as a poignant reminder of shared experiences and the bonds formed during formative years. For many, it’s a chance to rekindle friendships that may have faded over time, allowing attendees to reminisce about their youthful adventures, accomplishments, and the paths they’ve taken since graduation. Such connections can provide a sense of belonging and nostalgia, reinforcing the idea that while life may lead us on different paths, the foundational relationships built in high school can still hold significant value.

Moreover, 50 year reunions often highlight the richness of life experiences among attendees, creating an environment ripe for storytelling and learning. With decades of life lessons and achievements to share, these reunions can foster deep conversations that inspire and motivate. Participants can gain insights from each other’s journeys, be it personal triumphs, career successes, or overcoming challenges. This sharing of wisdom not only enriches individual perspectives but also strengthens the community bond among classmates. Ultimately, high school reunions at this stage of life serve not just as a nostalgic gathering, but as a celebration of resilience, growth, and the enduring connections that shape our lives.

The only thing that could have made the 52 year reunion better was YOU BEING THERE. There are two pains in life that are inescapable: the pain of discipline (inconvenience) or the pain of regret.  71 years has taught me the latter is far more painful. Plan now on being at our 55 year reunion. We all need this!

Again, thank you WSHS Class of 1973 reunion committee… I will never miss another!
