Centennial High School Reunion Night
An invitation from the Class of '66
In our continuing effort to unite those of us who were “Original Spartans” (all of us who were there the first day Start High School opened its doors) the Class of ’66 wants to invite the Class of ’65 to our 70th Birthday Bash Weekend, August 17th, 18th, and 19th. We’re still in the early planning stages, but we already have some things in the works to make it a fun weekend.
We’ll kick things off in the morning on Friday, August 17th with a co-ed golf outing that Classmates Bud and Sharon Gurecky Alderman are putting together (location, TBD). The fun continues with a fabulous fiesta Friday night at Tekela Mexican Cocina y Cantina on Main Street in Sylvania, where we’ve reserved the back room to mix, mingle, and raise a birthday toast to each other. To make things simple, you’ll be able to order food from a limited menu and just pay your own bill and bar tab.
The fun continues on Saturday, August 18th with our “main event”. We'll all gather at Centennial Terrace in Sylvania for the 15th Annual All-High School Reunion Night featuring Eddie and the Edsels. You can dance under the stars to some great music from the hardest working “oldies” band in Ohio. The doors open at 6:45, the band starts at 7:30 and the admission is $10 per person, payable at the door. Soft drinks, “adult beverages” and food are all available for purchase, too. (Sorry, no BYOB or food.) The deadline to reserve tables is Friday, August 3rd and I need to know if you’re planning to attend. The easiest way to do that
is just click on this link – Contact Us – and let us know if you plan to join the fun. (Please indicate exactly which events you plan to attend and how many seats you want us to reserve.) Many of us have been together at this over the past few years and it’s always a blast, so grab your dancin’ shoes, brush up on the stroll, the swim and the shimmy, and join the party!!
But wait, there’s more! We’ll cap the weekend with another chance to not only get together, but support a good cause, as well. On Sunday, August 19th, Toledo Memorial Park, at 6382 Monroe Street in Sylvania, will host the 6th Annual Wreaths Across America Toledo Metro Chapter Car Show from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. There’s no admission to this classic
car show, but donations will be gratefully accepted to benefit the Toledo Metro Chapter of Wreaths Across America, who’s goal is to eventually place a wreath on the grave of every veteran in the Toledo area. We Start grads have an additional tie to this event because The Toledo Metro Chapter was founded and is still led by a member of the Class of ’65, Mel Harbaugh. What better way could there be to wrap up our 70th birthday celebration than by drooling over the classic cars of these past 70 years??
All the exact details aren’t yet in place, but, as you can see, we’re off to a great start. (Or should that be off to a great Start?) Stay tuned for further details and, who knows, maybe more events. If any of you members of the Class of '65 have an idea for an additional event you’d like to organize and co-ordinate (a lunch, a picnic, a tour, etc.), just let us know. Let’s make it a weekend to remember!!
