Friends, I was not always on an academic track. After UCLA, I did most of a Masters of Taxation at night, and became a CPA by day. It was grooming for my Dad’s tax prep service at DeSoto and Ventura. By 1989 this tax "affair" unravelled. Meanwhile, I was seduced by a younger girl up to Santa Cruz. As you might imagine, that dissolved too, and I became interested in academics and political economy. This led to an adventure in the UMass Amherst Ph.D. program for heterodox economics. That was a great time, but it took some years.
By 9/11/01 I was teaching at Drew Univ. in Madison, NJ. We could see smoke clouds over the treeline from the WTC towers. After my dissertation defense, Manhattan seemed too compelling to just go home, and I am now living near Columbia University. As the video reveals, I finally secured a tenure track position. BMCC is part of the City University of New York, and sits a couple blocks from ground zero. Usually, I visit my brother and his kids in Hidden Hills about once per year. One of these days, I would like to start a family too and announce it here. It is wonderful to know that so many of you are well. --Ken
